Right! These units do not repair railway. Railways are repaired by RAD units and FBD. There are few of them 7 RAD and 4 FBD. The remaining construction units are engaged in the construction of fortifications and the repair of cities and air bases.

Outside of their name, they are functionally equivalent to regular "construction battalions". This game has no simulation of fixing damaged roads or constructing new roads for vehicle usage. I guess "road construction battalions" were included in the game because historically, besides their road construction capabilities, and at least theoretically and probably practically, these units could fulfill all the tasks of regular construction battalions (in game-terms repairing damaged infrastructure- like airfields, railyards and production facilities, and building/improving fortification levels).

I find roads to be highly abstracted.

Given GG's love of detail. I expect this was a performance decision made due to the cost of path calculations.

If roads cannot be constructed, improved, or destroyed ... then partial network calculations can be pre done which would result in optimized map performance. You already have rail to consider.

As a member of the Panther Games Team, I find the absence of bridges --- very missing.

I would like to see the biggest bridges in the game with reduced Mp to cross - agree.

Yes, bridges were considered a bridge to far (pun intended). Agree it would be nice, but we can only do so much.
