ARGH!

Post by mordachai »

Why does this game have to be so insanely frustrating?

I have a stupid freaking non-negotiable non-npc pirate base in my starting system - in an ice asteroid field - AND EVERY !@#$!~#@$@!##$ CONSTRUCTOR GOES THERE TO DIE.

I MEAN, SERIOUSLY?!!!!! !@#$!@#$!!@#$!@#$!@#$@!#$

You can't learn - after I dunno - THE FIRST ONE - DO - NOT - DO - THAT!!!@#$!@#$

Have you ever tried arguing with a computer that was not programmed for arguments?

It is probably a bug... is the ice asteroid field showing as a dangerous location?

I should have posted a save.

Yes, the icefield showed as red-lightning, so I would have expected that civilian ships would avoid it.
But by the time I discovered what was happening, I had about 5 constructors all disabled trying to escape, after all having tried to go salvage the junk yard in that field, with more coming. [The ice field had one of those silent pirates bases surrounded by a salvage field, and it was there that the constructors wanted to go - and it was there that they were blasted into submission -- and this is also why there were no indications in the events icons that normally show up, because you're not notified about space salvage, only building new bases, which this is not]...

This was the start of the game - so I had no economy - every dollar counted, and 5 colonizers were essentially my empire's entire output (this was a pre-warp start) to that point in the game. I couldn't figure out why nothing was growing, or why I wasn't getting the usual messages (eventually, this was early game) asking for confirmation as to what mining / research stations to build).

Initially I just expected it was the normal early game lag - where not much happens.

But then, yes, discovered that the entire economy was lying disabled (and you cannot send another constructor to fix ships in space -- which is a major idiotic failing of this game -- you can be prompted to go repair derelicts, but you cannot queue repairing your own disabled ships, nor do they seem to ever get a clue on their own and go do it).

Bottom Line: Civilian Ships SHOULD NOT go into dangerous areas. Bad things happen when they do.

Bonus Line: Fix the UI and Automation so that we can manual / automatically have constructors go repair mortally wounded ships as needed.

They are supposed to avoid locations like that. I've seen them avoid them. We'd need a save to see what happened in your case.

I have seen if there are other ships abandoned around the pirate base when they are discovered by an explore ship my fleets tend to either attack the base or my construction ships try to repair the derelict ships. It is a rare occurrence. I usually take my military ships and park them outside my home system and they no longer attack the pirate base. The construction ships i set them on manual and send them on there way somewhere else. I thought this had been addressed earlier but seems to still happen on occasion but like I said rarely.

This happened to me while streaming today and I came here looking for an answer. I was able to work my way around it by opening the editor, but I do still have the pre edited save file along with my VOD from twitch. I'll post a link to the save and video below.
