Question about disbanding Major Forts

This came up for me in WiTW originally, but there seem to be major forts that can't be disbanded.

Is there a way to disband them or otherwise save your troops?

Do these forts have any special meaning or use?

Are you talking about the separate fort level or the fortification zone unit?

Heh, I'm still a newbie. I am asking about the fort counter, like Brest, in WitW. Sorry for technically off topic post.

The coloured number representing the fort value (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) is just a defensive buff. It doesn't actually have any manpower/equipment attached to it.

TY, hmmm that might have changed between games. In WitW you could create and disband fort counters and the counters had troops assigned. These units existed to increase or maintain fort level.

I guess the question is specific to WitW only.

They still exist, they are called Fortified Unit and can be built by pressing this button:

Additional there are City Forts (called Fortified Region or Fortress) which are not directly increasing fort levels. Fort those, read Game Manual p.232 20.6. onwards.

Thanks again for the help. It looks like these are basically the same thing, Port fortresses, in both games. In WitW you leave units in them to deny the best ports to the Allies for as long as possible as near as I can tell. I was trying to figure out what they were intended to be.

Some fortress units may be frozen from game start so they can't be disbanded by player interaction until they unfreeze.
