Allied Impulse #4

CW and France move to cover convoys a bit more. The Queens leave Cairo. France moves a couple of ships into Norwegian Sea 0-box (that's as far as they will reach). A search by CW SUBs in the Italian Coast bears fruit with 7 surprise points. The Italian CP is destroyed w/ no effect (after applying surprise points) on the SUBs. CW SUBs are not committed for another round. In the East Med, both sides find with no extra surprise points. The air combat that ensues sees the German NAV cleared; however, AAA from the ships does not roll lower than 7 on 4 rolls, aborting the bomber from the sea zone. The 2nd round, each side rolls a 1. The CW, with its surprise points, adds its to Air-to-Air Combat value. After a combat abort, the CW aborts the air combat. Both sides fail to find for a 3rd round. Finally, both sides fail to find in the North Sea after CW attempts to activate there.

There are no Ground Strikes. The USSR rails the Moscow MIL to Stalino and a factory to Baku.

During Land, the USSR moves Zhukov even further West in position to reorganize some units. Otherwise, there is a general reshuffling. The Communist Chinese, seeing a bit of weakness in the Japanese defenses in the North, move forward to attack position. The Nationalist sit pat, seeing they are in strong defensive lines.

One combat, near Sian, is declared by the Communist Chinese. The Japanese select a Blitz. The Chinese gain the hex undisrupted.

Zhukov does some reorganizing on the Southern Front.

Axis Impulse #5

Weather is fine everywhere.

Japan and Germany take Land Actions and Italy takes an Air.

Italy initiates a search in the East Mediterranean. The search fails.

No STRAT bombing is initiated.

Germany conducts a couple of Ground Strikes on a clear 2 Hexes north of Odessa and on Minsk, each unintercepted and flipping a defender.

Germany moves forward to set up attacks in the Land Move while Japan pulls back to defend its conquests. Von Leeb disembarks SE of Oslo.

Germany declares 2 attacks, one on Minsk, and another in a clear hex 2 north of Odessa.

There is air combat over both hexes. Over Minsk, a German FTR is destroyed. All bombers otherwise get through for both sides. The Russian bomber gets through north of Odessa.

North of Odessa, Germany gets the hex but 1/2 are disorganised and the Russians retreat wiht no losses. Minks sees no German losses, but the hex remains in Russian hands with them losing a ski unit. All attackers are disorganized.
Germany reorganizes the Berlin MIL adjacent to Oslo. Several other disorganized units in both the North and South are likewise reupped.

Mostly because I've never tried it before :).

If playing CBV, of course, you'd get a nice 7-6 MECH for free.

The negatives, of course, are the cp gifts to the Allies and 2 TRS that might go over to them. (In this game, 7 cps, 2 TRS and 2 CLs went to the allies while one cp (useless in Trondheim) went to the Axis and 2 CLs were destroyed unable to rebase. Likely, that is the fate of the 2 remaining CLs as they do not cooperate with the CW being French and have no port to head back to except to overstack in the Faroes).

Allied Impulse #6

CW and USA take a Combined. USSR and China take Lands. France takes a Naval.

CW moves a NAV into the 3 Box of the North Sea. Combat is activated in that area. Axis find with surprise and elect to attack the 4 CL/CAs in the 4 box choosing Naval Air combat with the condor. The NEI De Ruyter is destroyed and another CL aborted. The 2nd round is also a succesful search be the Germans with a further 3 surprise. In the Condor attack, the Tromp is damaged and the last CL in the box, aborted. There is no successful 3rd round search on either side.

In its rail move, the USSR rails a unit from North of Manchuria toGomel. USSR moves around units in defense in Ukraine and Belorussia. Units are move into attack positions in Northern China. A Land Attack is declared there and in no other place. 5 air factors are added in defense by Japan. The resulting assault sees the Japanese INF lost and 2 Communist units, and INF and a Warlord, destroyed. The hex is taken.

Mao reorganises some Communist units while Yeremenko does the same for units near Viebstk.

Axis Impulse #7

Weather is Fine except Rain in N. Monsoon.

Germany and Japan took lands while Italy took a combined.

Italy redid the convoy to Sardinia and attempted to initiate combat in the East Med. They get surprise and choose a surface combat using 4 of their 6 points. 2 more are used to lower potential damage. Result is 1 CW CA aborted and 1 Damaged and for Italy, 2 damaged CAs and an aborted BB. Both find in the 2nd round, all boxes involved, even the Italian FTR in the 1 box. An air combat ensues... the Italian FTR is destroyed with a pilot surviving while the CW CVPs take no damage. The loss of a 6 movement FTR is painful for Italy. 3rd round, there will be combat, but CW chooses a Naval Air... with no air-sea factors on the CVPs, there will be no actual combat. Both sides fail to find in the 4th round.
No STRAT bombing takes place. Italy attempts a Ground Strike on Oslo. It fails.

Japanese rail Terauchi and a MOT Div from the south to northern Chinese theatres. Movement on their behalf is to shore up flagging defenses around Sian. Germany works its way around Oslo while they move forward in the USSR seeking weakness.

Germany declares attacks on Oslo, Minsk, a flipped stack NW of Nikolayev, and another single unit 2 hexes NW of that same city. Ground support is added to Minsk and Oslo. All attacks see success with only one against Oslo seeing the loss of a division and 1/2 units disorganized.

Allied Impulse #8

Allies all pass except for USSR which takes a Land.

A factory is railed from Kiev. USSR land moves are pulling back and trying to make a defensive front.

The turn does not end.

Axis Impulse #9

The weather is atrocious with Snow in the Arctic and Storm or rain everywhere else.

Italy takes a combined while Germany and Japan take Land actions.

Italy moves a CP into the West Med, hoping to sneak an extra BP out of it. The CW initiates combat there and the Italians bring a FTR to cover the convoy. The Allies find with 5 surprise and select a surface combat. Of course, the Italian convoy point is eliminated and the Algerian resource is going no where this turn (if it ends before next). No one finds the 2nd round and the Naval phase is over.

There are no STRAT bombing runs nor are there any Ground Strikes given the weather.

Germany generally moves units forward; however, supply issues at the front means that there are not attacks that can be done. Japan has no units to move that would improve the defenses.

The turn does not end with a roll of 9 while a 4 was needed.

Allied Impulse #11

USSR and China take Land Actions while every other MP takes a Combined.

A CW port strike on La Spezia inverts 2 cp. The CW activates in the North Sea but the Germans achieve surprise and Avoid Combat.

Mostly, there is a reshuffling of the decks by USSR and CW during land moves, although there is movement forward by the Chinese Communists as they contemplate an attack in Storm on the lone Japanese MIL in Sian. CW does land Gort in Suez. He seems to have an affinity to Egypt for some reason.

A land attack on Sian is called off as the possibility of a modified 14 looms large with +1.6 on a possible attack. Likewise, and attack by the Nationalists on an out of supply-disorganized Japanese unit in the South is called off due to poor odds in the rain.

The turn fails to end with a roll of 6 and 50% chance to end it.

Axis Impulse #13

Weather has returned... Fine everywhere.

Japan and Italy take combineds. Germany takes a Land.

Minor naval moves are taken by Japan. No combats are activated.

A German ART hits a clear hex SE of Kiev as well as a FTR acting as a bomber. An LND Ground Strikes Odessa. Japan Ground Strikes 2 INF threatening Sian with 3 A/C. In the air battle near Kiev, the USSR interceptor is shot down though the pilot survives. The German FTR clears through. In that stack, only 1 unit is disorganized. Odessa gets no result. Japan does disorganize the two targetted INF, making Sian safe for the nonce.

Germany moves forward to try some probing attacks. Japan and Italy just move a couple of units to no purpose.

Three attacks are declared by Germany. Odessa, hex SE of Kiev and Vitebsk. No ground support is added except by ART in defense of the hex SE of Kiev by the USSR.

In Odessa, attacker and defender both lose a unit, and the city stands. The hex SE of Kiev is taken with no losses and a retreat of the defenders.

10 is rolled, so the turn continues.

Allied Impulse #14

Everyone passes except Russia which takes a combined.

Russia moves to SUBs out of Leningrad. They find with 8 surprise points. Three Norwegian CPs are destroyed and 2 German abort, clearing the sea area of convoys.

Land move is spent shoring up holes in the lines and making room for reinforcements in near front line cities.

The turn ends on a 2.

End of Turn Sequence:

1 Russian partisan arrives... not many good spots to put it though.

US Entry chit is added to Germany and Resources to USSR is chosen.

Some end of Turn files to follow...

Just a note:

The last impulse attack by the Soviet SUBs was devastating to the Axis. Only 1 oil was able to be saved this impulse, that from Iraq. There was not enough oil to reorganize all the units, especially the German and Italian Navies, including SUBs. For this reason, it looks like the CW will have a turn or two of latitude to send resources (and later, BP) to the USSR without much interference by the Axis powers. Italy will be lucky to maintain supply to its forces in North Africa. Fortunately, the Nile acts as a buffer both ways.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next turn. Germany received another SYNTH plant and Italy has a saved oil for some reorganization next turn.

Axis wins initiative, no reroll possible.

With a 1, weather is wonderful everywhere.

Axis Impulse #1

Land for all Axis powers.

Germany conducts GS agains Vitebsk to the North and a stack 2 hexs SE of Kiev. Japan strikes the hex directly west of Sian containing 2 Communist INF. USSR sends an interceptor against both which are, in turn, intercepted by Germans. The FTR above Viebsk are aborted on both sides while the LND clears through. To the South, the USSR FTR is destroyed (pilot survives) and the LND cleared through. All 3 units in Vitebsk are disorganized, while 1 of 2 (the ARM) is disorganized SE of Kiev. For Japan, both INF are disorganized. All in all, a successful round of GS for the Axis.

Japan rails a couple of units to northern China, weakening the anti-partisan units. Germany rails the Hamburg MIL eastward.

Land movement sees Germany moving to almost surround Vitebsk and getting units in position to strike the Ground Struck stack in the South. Japan further shores up its defenses in Northern China and looks to take out a pesky Partisan.

Attacks are declared in various locales. Germany foregoes an attack against Vitebsk as USSR can bring in numbers of unintercepted LND. Attacks are made on Odessa, a Hex 2 hexes SE of Kiev, and a partisan in the south. Japan is doing its own partisan attack in Northern China. Neither side brings any ground support to any of the attacks.

The attacks against the Partisans both go well. A 5 (15 modified) is rolled against Odessa, gaining the city but losing 2 units for the Germans. The Blitz near Kiev takes the hex and sends the Russians to the spiral while not disorganizing any German units.

Germans rebase some air units forward and reorganize a FTR and 2 INF in the South with Guderian and a Stuka and a MIL in the North with von Bock.

Allied Impulse #2

CW and France take Naval Actions. USSR and China take Lands. USA takes a Combined.

CW sends a NAV into the 4-box of the West Med. Naval moves of France and CW are to cover convoy lines. Two searches are conducted by the CW in the Italian Coast and East Med, but both fail to find or are avoided.

CW STRAT bombing of Essen takes 1 BP from Germany.

During Rail, USSR moves reserve MIL to the Western Front.

for Land Moves, China shuffles, USSR retrenches and Communist Chinese muddle their way forward, hoping to cause some supply issues for the Japanese in the North.

USSR reorganizes railed MIL using 2 ATRs. Mao flips 2 diorganized INF. Yeremenko reorganizes the 3 units in Vitebsk. Various TRS reorganize CLs in port at Scapa and Liverpool.

Axis Impulse #3

Weather is Fine everywhere except for Rain in N. Monsoon.

Italy takes a combined while Japan and Germany take Lands.

Ground strikes see 2 of 3 units in Vitebsk disorganized. Otherwise, in the West the strikes are supreme failures. Japan does flip a dangerous Communist CAV which will allow freer movement of units in the North.

Germany moves units forward on the Eastern Front. Japan reshuffles in Northern China. Italy does nothing move-wise. The Axis powers declare no attacks this impulse seeing everything is very low odds.

Allied Impulse #4

CW takes an Air. France takes a Naval. China takes a Land. USSR and USA take combineds.

CW port strikes Athens. Axis has 2 surprise points which it adds to AirtoAir combat. In the ensuing air combat, the Italian FTR is destroyed along with the pilot while the lone CW CVP bomber is cleared through. 1 bombing factor gets throught he flak and aborts the TRS in Athens.

A Russian SUB moves into the Baltic, causing a Condor to react to that sea... but the is no search conducted. The US moves Clarke HQ in the direction of American Samoa. The CW fails to find in the East Med.

USSR conducts a Ground Strike with a 4 factor ART on a stack of ARM SE of Kiev. 2 of the 3 units are disorganized.

Russia moves communists in China into positions that make the Japanese uncomfortable. China moves no units. Clarke debarks in American Samoa.

CW reorganizes two LND with Alexander.

Axis Impulse #5

Weather is Fine everywhere with a roll of 1.

No Naval moves were done.

Japan STRAT bombs Lanchow for -1 BP to China.

Germany conducts a Ground Strike with a 5 and 3 factor A/C and a 4 ART on the forest hex NW of Dnepropetrovsk. It is not intercepted. 2 of the 3 units there are disorganized.

During movement, Japan shuffles units to protect itself in the North. Germany moves into attack positions.

Germany declares 2 attacks, one on Vitebsk and the other on the forest hex NW of Dnepropetrovsk. There is Ground Support added to the Vitebsk attack with no reaction from the USSR. The Germans take the hex in the South with a lost MOT and all disorganized while the defenders are retreated.

Reorganizations are done by Germany in both the North and South.

Allied Impulse #6

CW/USA take combineds, France takes a Naval, USSR and China take Land Actions.

CW/USA and France move a couple of cps about. CW searches with SUBs in Italian Coast and destroy an Italian convoy point... meaning no Sardinian resource this turn. A search in East Med is not successful.

CW strat bomb Hanover with no interceptors... a 7 roll sees 1 German BP loss. There are no Ground Strikes by the Allies.
USSR rails Dnepropetrovsk factory to Archangel.

Another Indian INF land in Cairo. There are various defensive land moves by the allied powers.

Axis Impulse #7

Weather is Fine everywhere except for Storm in the N. Monsoon.

Italy and Germany take combineds. Japan takes a Land.

Germany moves CPs and a TRS into the Baltic and pick up Gort. USSR SUBs find, but without enough surprise to overcome the Condor in the 0 box... instead they select weaker Finnish escorts for a surface... neither side is affected. The second round, Germany has 7 surprise points and successfully avoids combat.

The Axis conduct one Ground Strike to the hex East of Nikolayev. 1 defender is inverted.

Germany moves units into position for limited attacks in Russia. Japan repositions its defenses.

Germany declares 2 attacks, one east of Nikolayev and one east of Vitebsk. Germany takes the hex near Nikolayev, losing a strong MOT and disrupted, but crossing the river line in sufficient strength to hold it. Vitebsk is an automatic win.
The turn does not end, requiring a roll of 1.

All Allies pass except the USSR which takes a Land Action.

No Ground Strikes are conducted, nor are any rail moves done.

Russia moves units into defensive positions and rebases air into more advantageous positions in the North (as the Axis seems to have exhausted everything in the South).

In any case, the turn ends on a 2.

End of Turn sequence:
