[WAD] Stop RTB

Post by wyskass »

I've returned to CMO after some break and am being reminded how I quit due to frustrating behavior.
One constant problem I have in the game is preventing RTB.
I did a manual strike with standoff cruise missiles, and they want to RTB right after. I can't figure out which of the weapons state setting will stop this. The planes still have 4 AAMRAMS.. and I want them to stay and do CAP. I didn't use a mission for this. I tried One Engagement with WVR and Strike weapons setting and still nothing. They have fuel as well.
Much of the time in this, I'm chasing down deserters.
This just one of a few frustrating that made me quit before.

How do stope them from leaving when there are still many weapons left?

Alrighty then.

For this issue pretty easy fix.

Go to the Unit Doctrine, ROE screen. Take a look at the weapon state preplanned options. Lots of options to pick from.

Yes, that's what I was working with and couldn't make sense of the setting not working.
The setting I expected to work was "Shotgun - One engagement with WVR and Strike weapons. Allow targets of opportunity for Air to Air".
I didn't run a mission, but manually targeted with a standoff cruise missile. I had SLAMMER cruise missiles and 4 AAMRAMS and 4 Sidewinders. After shooing the SLAMS, they went TRB.
I expected the setting to have them loiter as Not Assigned since they still had the AAMRAMS. So I'm a bit confused how these setting are supposed to work because most of the time I don't see units following it, or I am missing something. I did check in the manual about this too.
I also tried the "Expend all BVR and Standoff weapons". Still had AAMRAMS so didn't expend all BVR, yet still goes home.
thanks

Just change the weapon status doctrine to "DO NOT RTB".

I think current CMO do not recognize the dual purpose aircraft. If an A/C carry A/G weapon, then it is a strike A/C. AAM are not counted into primary weapon. So if you expand all your A/G weapon, then it counted as primary weapon depleted.

Just tested and it does rtb after the slammers are fired. I agree that the description can be interpreted a few different ways, but not sure I care that much as there are so many different settings to choose and the DO NOT RTB solves this issue completely.

W if its a big enough issue for you to spend time on post a save file with a description in tech support. Not high enough for me and it could just come down to a description change rather than function :D

Thanks for the advice and testing it.
I can be fine with the issue, but posted mainly to understand the settings and if I'm not seeing something. It's more about expectations, in that if I know how it works I can deal with it.
Sure, No RTB setting will prevent the deserters, but then it becomes an issue of having units loitering without enough weapons. But yea, if that's the only way, it's fine.
But trying to understand if the state definitions and effects differ based on loadout and if on mission.

No prob.

You're point on loitering units is valid but probably the lesser problem?

It doesn't impact me much as I tend to click and check things constantly.

I agree it's a lesser problem. Just that with ADHD I try to over-organize and automate when possible, because it's difficult and tiring to prioritize and manage, Yet for some reason I'm drawn to complex sim games.
