STOP exporting my Schnapps to ports!!!

Post by DeletedUser1769703214 »

The Germans have to be aware from the very outset of turn 1 that ports will draw freight to them(ports) first before anywhere else per the manual. Germany "does not" want this freight at the ports!!! You want that freight going East! So please be aware of this and set all but one, two at most, ports to zero(0). I choose Danzig as my port but it is up to you to choose the one you like. At a minimum I set Danzig to 2 and set all other ports in these two pictures to zero(0).

I had brought this up in an AAR long ago. Germans "have" to be aware 100% this can happen and take care of this on turn 1 or you are going to have supply issues.

This is from a Team game I joined around turn 10ish as German LW Commander. This is from the "For the Infallable Koba" game here https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 2&t=386674 I quickly recommended closing these ports down to OKH commander to just one port and get this supply EAST! You can see the ports have hogged the freight which was & is needed desperately in the East. Don't end up with freight like this in German ports. This freight needs to go east, shut down those ports.

That is A LOT of Freight in these ports. Here are a few snapshots.

Hopes this helps and I am sure others smarter than me can add their input too. Thank you for looking.

Good stuff, here are a couple of additional points. You may want to switch them to import ports too, since export ports, I believe, can receive freight even if they're set to zero.

Also, I like to set up Kiel, Rostock and maybe Stettin as my export ports in the Baltic. The reason for this is that the export ports will get freight shipped (usually from Berlin) before any other depots. I don't like to incur freight usage on the lines east of Berlin for this reason, as it may impede further deliveries from Berlin to Vilnius, Minsk etc. Kiel and Rostock incur usage on the railways to the north-west of Berlin, which are not normally needed by Eastern Front land freight.

Excellent additional information K62! Thank you Sir.

This is stating the obvious for 99% of the player base, but for the 1% that are not familiar with this, we are talking about export ports, the white circle with the blue anchor as opposed to import ports that are the blue circles with the white anchors.

I never understood this, do export ports need to be high priority to draw freight from NSS and import ports need to be high priority to receive the ship freight? If they are at 4, will the import ports forward freight to a priority 3 depot?

No, the export port only needs to be lower than the receiving import port. You never have to set an export port to high priority, like a 4, since freight is "always" sent to these ports first before other freight is shipped out. Thus setting an export port at 2 will still receive a good quantity of freight to be shipped to import ports.

Think of two different freight shipment runtimes

1st - Port freight shipments - freight is sent to the ports depots.
2nd - AI sends freight to depots
*** each runtime taking into account the respective priorities of the depots.

Hope this helps and I am sure the bookworms can tidy this up for us if I have something incorrect.

So correct setup is NSS - export port prio 2 - import port prio 3 - frontline depot prio 4?

Why do i not set up many import/export ports? Is the amount of ships the limitting factor and the supply would pile up?

@#1 That is a good freight route :) You can see this in action in the following snapshots I pulled from my game.

@#2 that and the supply network setup not supporting the move east of the supply.

Logistics is not my strong point.

I totally agree with moving freight East is very important. How does stopping freight moving West create additional capacity for freight to move East? I thought capacity was limited by rail line usage, railyards and depots.

Thx

By turning off the Port depots (setting to 0) you dictate where that freight is distributed too. There is no increase in freight out of the NSS, only where you dictate that freight to go to by depot setting, 0 - 4 if you will. Freight is pulled to ports first & is stock piling per the picture here from the Teams game I am in around turn 10ish.

You can see the ports have accumulated Freight and has not released it east. I turn mine off as seen in this picture same time frame from one of my games.

Instead I have accumulated Freight in the South in these level 4 depots where they are all FULL at "capacity" or nearly full at the same time frame in the game. Which is better for a drive in the Soviet Union? The first picture or the last picture?
