Where's the Hype?!
There's barely any activity on this sub so let's change it.
Which side are you most excited to play? NATO or Soviets?
Are you starting with completing all the scenarios? Campaigns? PBEM?
Who plans on making new scenarios?

Re: Where's the Hype?!
Strange, not much pre-release info, streams, AAR's on the game. I'll be getting it this weekend and going forth as NATO at first. My PBEM partner and I have been playing the first game in PBEM for the last couple of weeks to warm up.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
This is one of my two "bucket list" games, as I get closer to kicking the bucket. The other is Second Front , which is taking forever to release on Steam.
Call me obsessive, but I've actually saved FCRS all these years to play it on that "rainy day." But now that the new game is coming out, I've been playing it solitaire, and even some of my half-baked scenario creations play pretty well. So credit the AI there. Playing MP must be awesome, but I've gotten too old for that intense of an experience.
I will post on Steam about the week-long sale on the franchise, unless someone has beaten me to it.
Best wishes to all.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
There has been some hype. We have done 6 Dev Blogs (number six on the AI should be up today or Wednesday). Five live streams with more coming (I have done 3, and Richard Yorke has done two). Traffic on our Discord. Some here. Matrix has a sale posted for Red Storm, and Germany Reforged this week. All-in-all some decent hype for us. If the final release build goes well today, there should be a game to get on Thursday.

Everyone needs to do all of three - it shines in all those areas. I'm partial to the East German campaign.byzantine1990 wrote: Tue Nov 15, 2022 12:34 am There's barely any activity on this sub so let's change it.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
Multi-player campaigns will take some thought and discussion with the team as it would be a radical change from the current single-sided campaign structure. We can craft the narrative from one side, which goes away when you have two active sides. We will investigate it as we look into a multiplayer mode down the road.

Hope so, the game is fantastic in PBEM. Any chance of a random scenario generator on the existing maps. Points per side, pick your force and engagement type, length and off you go.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
@Budd, no random battle generator. The way scenarios are crafted makes that tough to implement. We are thinking about ways to make something like that in the future, but it is not a trivial setup with our code, much like the issues with having two-sided campaign games. Things we will think about and there are other features and tools we want to add as we go. So wait and see. Maybe we will come up with something brilliant.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
I've been looking forward to this as well. I got in the beta but then couldn't post on the forums and before I could get that resolved I had to get a new PC and...well, you know. But what I saw was fantastic.
I do wonder if, ahem, certain world events which have pointed out the lack of capability of a certain modern nation that was once a certain other modern nation back in this game's time frame may have softened interest a bit? As someone who grew up with the Cold War, and was in Berlin at a military installation during the Cold War, I spent much of my life totally engrossed in the whole NATO/WP thing. And I still believe the 1980s USSR was a damn dangerous foe, even if not quite in the way some of the more excessive red-baiters wanted to paint it. So I have no problem compartmentalizing what's going on today with what might have happened then. Apples and...beets? Potatoes?
For folks who are a bit, um, younger, maybe, the distinction between then and now may not resonate as much. Either they may have no real knowledge of the era, and thus the whole setup might as well be science fiction, or they have an inkling but associate now and then too closely and lose interest. Just a possibility I was musing about.
Current events have definitely made me think again about stuff I haven't thought about in ages.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
While the Cold War subject does not interest me as it would have many years ago, I will get it because I enjoy WEGO and basically how wargames are implemented in general. Couple of off the cuff questions:
Is there a PBEM or other H2H following for Flashpoint that the new product can tap into?
Would there be any way (even with a little designer's license) to simulate the ongoing battles in Ukraine?
A quick follow on DLC for Ukraine 2023 would be all the hype the new game needs.
Some are doing this with CMBS and, while not perfect, its good enough for now. A big missing piece that all modern wargame will have to address are those pesky UAVs and the ISR everywhere phenomenon.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
We plan on doing a Modern Version of the game engine in the near future to address the shift in speed and scale even from the Cold War (46-95). We need to deal with what you note concerning ISR, Cyber, UAs, and other modern technologies on the battlefield. Hopefully, all things in good time.

Re: Where's the Hype?!
Really looking forward to this and will hopefully purchase (and play) tomorrow depending on what time it releases in my region (UK).
Down the road I'm really looking forward to the introduction of modern warfare and other NATO forces, such as the UK.
I'd like to think that when the 'strategy' community, including bloggers, youtubers and that ilk get their hand on the product they will raise awareness.
Good luck CapnDarwin and the rest of the team!

Re: Where's the Hype?!
That is the printed manual which is a mash-up of the first three field manuals (FM) we have for documentation of the game. The game will have our PDFs, which will be living documents as the series goes on, and content, bug fixes, and features get added.

Good to see I got some conversation going in here.
I look forward to seeing you all on the battlefield tomorrow as the glorious communist heroes free the proletariat from their imperialist overlords one nuke at a time!
