[FIXED] 1292.1 Sim Freeze

Post by DeHav »

I've experienced this over the past few versions, but it still persists.

At a certain point in the scenario, the simulation freezes. Trying to save the game while in this state usually locks up the whole program.

If I restart the game and load an earlier (auto)save, it will freeze again when I reach the same in-game time it froze at last time. Sometimes this is to the exact second, other times it's within around 10 seconds where it last froze. In any case, it's impossible to get past that point in the scenario.

Every time this happens, it has been at a point where many missiles are in the air and more are being fired. More specifically, it's large numbers of SSMs and AShMs that seem to trigger the freeze. I've previously played scenarios (on the same PC) with more extreme cases of this and never had a total freeze.

I've attached autosaves from two scenarios where the simulation is a few seconds away from its freeze point. Note that Nordic Freedom is one I'm in the early stages of testing, hence the player side is doing nothing while I check the computer sides behave correctly. Black Hammer is also a playtest of a scenario from these forums.

If you can run either scenario for more than a few minutes without a freeze, it must be specific to my installation or hardware...

Hi DeHav -- thanks for the saved game files. I was able to reproduce and fix the issue in the 'Black Sea' save but was never able to reproduce a freeze in the 'North Atlantic' save. Can you please try both files in build 1294 and let me know if either freeze still occurs? Thanks!

Thanks, I’ll give it a go when I get home in a few hours. If it doesn’t work, I have another ‘frozen’ save from v2 of the North Atlantic scenario!

Had it on 1292.1, then upgraded it to 1294.1 and had the same issue.
The timer will not start. I can move and plan all units but no movement. button will go from pause to play but timer is not changing.

Just ran some quick tests in 1294.1 - both saves run now, and haven't frozen again in 10 minutes of 'double-flame' speed between them.

Seems like it's fixed (for me at least), thanks!

I just gave this a quick go, out of curiosity. It froze 35 seconds in, but pausing/unpausing brought it back and it continued running without issue.

This scenario remains in a deep freeze at my laptop.
Other scenario's work fine in 1294.1

Hi Blast33 -- thanks for the report. I am unable to reproduce the freeze in 1294+. How long are you waiting after hitting the 'go' button? This appears to be a fairly demanding scenario and it could cause a temporary slow-down in the sim when it first starts up, as it appears there are a lot of sensor and weapon-related calculations happening at the very start.

Can you please test this again and then post your exception log from after the test? The file can be found in the game install folder under the 'logs' folder as 'ExceptionLog.txt.' Thanks!

Works fine tonight 8-)

I had NVIDIA share still active (and got a warning from CMO that this could cause problems) but it auto started every time i deleted it.
Since I solved that, the freeze is over.

I did had a error in the exeption log

21-11-2022 19:53:14 -- B1294.1 -- Error in satellite data

Without doing anything to the satellite but by killing nvidia.share it did not pop up again in the log.
Thanks for the support!
