Scenarios not Showing

Post by TitaniumTrout »

Neither my scenarios nor campaigns are showing, it's just an empty list. All are present in the default directory. Install was all default locations.

Could you please share your system specs with us and tell us if you have any anti-virus/security software installed which you could turn off and try an uninstall/reinstall?

Also, try restarting your system to see if it makes any difference please.

DxDiag attached. Default Win10 security package. I did notice that when I try to open a Campaign the folder it is looking to it in my Users directory, not the game directory. I don't see the same path in the Scenarios area. I am un-installing / re-installing now.

I'm a developer and this falls into my area.

The game is clearly looking in an empty folder for the scenarios. That should be easy to fix when I get a sense of the layout of your install. I see that you just posted a screenshot while I was typing this. Let me have a look.

Thanks, Rob C

Sounds good, uninstall-reinstall has the same results.

OK, based on this I think that you installed to the default c:\Program Files (x86)\... root folder.

That is a protected Windows folder that is meant to be read-only and not casually used to save files by programs such as ours. The proper way to resolve this is to put the files that can be changed into a separate folder in Documents\My Games\ and clearly the game tried to do this but failed.

I don't know why it failed yet but you can fix this easily enough by copying the files over yourself.

To do this go to c:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Flashpoint Campaign Southern Storm\Modules\ and COPY then entire FCSS folder. Then paste that folder into c:\users\casey\Dcouments\MyGames\Flashpoint Campaigns Player Files\Modules.

This is a bit of overkill in the sense that it will move files that are not needed, but it will move the files you do need to copy over to that location. As soon as you do that all the Scenarios and Campaign Files should show up in the game as expected for you.

Bonus: could you check in the root directory of your game to see if there is a little "FCBugReport.txt" file there? There may well not be, but if there is then it may give us a hint as to why the automatic file copy did not work in this case.

Please give this a try and tell us how it works out.

Thanks for purchasing the game and we hope you really enjoy it!

FWIW, as Rob knows, I am having an issue where I see the campaign and scenarios, but the game can't find them. Also, I did have one instance where neither the campaigns or the scenarios showed up like the original poster, but I shut the game down and restarted it and that solved it. However, my issue continues as the game can't find the scenarios/campaigns.

We haven't seen this on our systems or those of the test team, but it's clearly failing in a few cases. Have you tried this work-around yet?

Way ahead of you lol. Tried that with no luck. However, I have my install on my D:\matrixgames.....etc. I will uninstall and let the game put it in default on my C: and try again.

I copied the contents to the other location and still had no luck. I uninstalled and re-installed into a location at c:\Matrix Games\ and it worked perfectly.

Nope, no dice. To be clear, other than one time, my scenarios/campaigns always show up...just doesn't load them.

Lol, i had forgotten how fast these message pile up!

Recap - the problem first reported by TitaniumTrout (great name) hasn't been solved but reinstalling to a non-default folder (as we typically do here at OTS) worked fine. I'm assuming you are good now but I really need to find out why the internal file copying failed. We shell to XCopy to make that copy operation as fast as possible. This causes two or three command prompt windows to flash up on the desktop just before the game starts as the files are copied. My guess is that either XCopy is not available on your computer for some reason, or it is disabled by some policy or security setting. Hmmm. That is something I can check for and use a slower but more certain method in the future. I will add this to my to do list asap.

The problem reported by ACTrader just turned out to be a map image processing issue (the first ever) and I have just written to ACTrader directly about it. This too is a gnarly issue and I have suggested a workaround and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works. If not, we have some significant work ahead of us. The good news is that I have a really clear idea of what exactly went wrong thanks to ACTrader sending me the generated exception report.

Back to writing all this up in our own internal issue tracker. Thanks both of you for your patience as we work out these unexpected glitches! We had 100+ beta testers and none had either of these problems. Lots of others, but not these ones.

Cheers, Rob C

I did have the three command prompt windows flash up every time I loaded FCSS. With the working install I no longer see those.

Thanks for the help and hard work Rob.

Oooh, so XCopy is alive and well on your computer, it just was defeated by something else. That suggests lots of possibilities to me.

I went a made a nice cup of coffee and while I was doing that at least two alternatives to XCopy occurred to me. I think I will go for the one that is a little more work but totally under my control. Then I can detect if there is a problem and come up with a plan B inside the game. Now I just need a quiet hour or two...

Same happened to me. Scenarios not showing, campaigns showing and opening. I followed the copy/paste instructions and everything seems to be fine now. I can open and play scenarios.

This is top of my action list. We never had problems before but clearly something is going on now. I have a specific fix in mind and I'm on it.

Btw, thanks for checking the forum and trying out this idea when you found it.

Enjoy the game! Rob C

Does't it look like user account protection mechanism? I got used to this phenomenon since Windows 8. I like high protection, so I have a lot of low threat messages, also with your launcher process. I manually then give permission to the processes.

I experienced the same issue as TitaniumTrout and the fix also worked (installed to the default location, manually copy and pasted the FCSS folder). I have xcopy on my system and it seems to work fine. No error log in my root install directory though.

I have programmed in an entirely new routine to move the scenario and campaign files from the install directory (read-only) to the target read-write directory in My Games. It is testing really well for me and will be included in our first update.

Sorry about the trouble this caused, it simply never showed up on any of our computers in testing!
