Bases assaulted today: Dadjangas and Tarakan
Bases captured today: Port Swettenham, Zamboanga (RES 20(0), LI 20(0)), and Tawau (vacant)
Dutch bombers at Balikpapan attacked the Japanese transports at Tarakan but missed. On Luzon Zeroes sank another PT boat at Bataan. SB2Us based at Port Moresby attacked Japanese battleships leading transports into Milne Bay but had no hits. CV Agaki will provide LRCAP from KB until Milne Bay and Port Moresby are taken.

Dec 28, 1941
Bases assaulted and captured today: Basilan (vacant, by paradrop)
Allied subs found some torpedoes that work - a CM out of Takao was sunk heading to Luzon and a YO was sunk returning home empty from Paramushiro. But Japanese torpedoes work, too - a transport and tanker were hit near San Diego.
The 1 Formosa Rgt reinforced our position at Palembang. Dutch bombers again attacked the transports and got 1 bomb hit.
Two attacks in China gained ground -
The Japanese CVL task force arrived at Yokohama enroute to the Aleutian Islands and Ryujo upgraded her fighters from A5M4 Claude to A6M2 Zero. We also replaced RADM Takagi (naval rating 55, air rating 44) with RADM Yamaguchi (naval rating 55, air rating 76) as TF commander. I forgot to check the individual ship captains, so will do that before the TF departs east.
Edit to add: No better ship captains are currently available for CVLs Ryujo and Zuiho, so the current captains will remain in command. This will be checked again in about a month.

We resume the game after a pause for my opponent to deal with health issues concerning his wife.
Bases captured today: Malacca (RES 79(21)), Praboemoelih, Mergui (vacant, RES 10(0)), Namatanai (vacant), Groot Natoena (vacant), and Kluong (vacant)
Several minesweepers cleared Palembang harbor of mines, followed by several large tankers to load oil and fuel.
US subs are detected at Milne Bay - one puts a torpedo in an xAK loading 144 Rgt before taking 5 ASW hits; the other attacks but fails and also takes 5 ASW hits. Neither is likely in danger of sinking and Sydney is not that far away.

Bases assaulted today: Samarinda
Bases captured today: Great Sitkin (flipped), Lahat, Pontianak (RES 20(0)), and Terempa (vacant)
Our battleship TF was unable to escort the invasion force into Samarinda because the ships are too big to go up the river, so it took up station to block interference by an Allied naval force -

which it did. Two of the Dutch cruisers were sunk, but 3 of our destroyers are limping away and the battleships are out of ammunition. Because our recently converted AKE are still in Japan the battleships need to go to Hong Kong to rearm. Even with 3 naval HQ at Cam Ranh Bay, the level 5 port cannot rearm a battleship.
Our carriers again attacked Port Moresby. On Luzon, 16 Div marched into Clark Field to be followed by 65 Bde tomorrow. An artillery bombardment will show us the composition of the 26 Allied units defending there.

Bases captured today: Siquijor (flipped), Samarinda (OIL 81(19)), Green Is. (vacant), and Johore Bharu (RES 99(1))
An Allied naval force was spotted near Samarinda, where the amphib TF was still unloading; it was unknown whether this was the defeated Dutch TF or another. But since the battleships were out of ammo from yesterday's engagement, they retired. The amphib TF finished unloading and was then attacked by the Allied TF; it was NOT the Dutch -
