Is this game worth $60?

I understand it is presumptuous to even ask a question such as this. But I felt a need to post some observations.

1. The live streams and previews do not do justice to the release version - it is so much deeper.

2. The Flashpoint Red Storm Players Edition (2013) was far ahead of the initial 2005 Flashpoint Campaigns release, And this game is dramatically "improved" over the FCRS game. So, for those who love FCRS, buying this one is a no-brainer, assuming they can afford the $60. It really does play like a "new" game.

3. Despite the increased wealth of detail apparent everywhere in the sim, this relative newbie was able to not only play the vanilla game without reading the manuals, but easily create and run a custom scenario without difficulty.

4. For those few like myself who years ago invested in the old HPS Point of Attack 2.5 sim, with all due respect to that effort, FCSS is the game that one should have been - and then some! While it does not track each projectile fired on-screen, FCSS seems to do everything right.

5. And, as a bonus, the game runs like lightning on an eight-year-old Win-10 computer - seemingly smoother than FCRS does.

Yes, $60 is a considerable sum, but there is simply nothing like this game on the market.

Haven't top tier wargames gone for $60 for ages. Gary Grigsby's Second Front went for $60 30 years ago according to my collection of old CGW magazines. Also many mainstream titles go for $60 or more today.

One has to have a budget and prioritize. I can't justify $60 for Southern Storm thanks mainly to having to purchase everything with a failing third world currency and the fact there are also other titles I'm interested in getting this year. As a result I have to wait until the Steam release to take advantage of regional pricing. On the positive side at least a lot the inevitable bugs and balance issues will be addressed by then.

I certainly don't begrudge the developers and publishers for their pricing which seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I agree with the OP; it's one of the few games I've seen recently that is pretty unequivocally worth the asking price. Admittedly, a 50% coupon didn't hurt but I probably would have bought it at full price anyhow. The amount of coolness they crammed in here probably should be illegal.

I appreciate the OP and agree with others. While $60, especially for a wargame, is nothing for me to cough at, I had faith that SS would at least be as good as RS. After seeing the very nice screenshots, I soon made up my mind to get SS on release day. So far it is running very well and I look forward to investing many hours into it.

I think the game is worth 60USD games for the last 20 years games seem to be around 40 USD without a sale or discount, So with time and inflation its around the same price. I live in China now and would be happy to pay the regional steam price but don't want to wait 6 months. This is one of the better games the other flashpoints games I play all the time.

Totally agree. Definitely worth 60! Justthe always updated graphical enemy intel sitrep and the map import/export/overlay functions are worth so much. I love it.

I haven't yet seen anyone mention the Battlefield Survey... as a surveyor/engineer, this is a map lover's dream. I've spent nearly as much time pouring over the maps alongside Google Earth and other sources, as I have actually playing the game.

I can only imagine the hours that went into the mapmaking for this project. Well done, William, Steve, et al.!
