Is this gamey?

Pulling CUs off the line so that they can be injected into battles (RESERVE) that they would otherwise not participate in?

What is wrong with it? It is a week long turn.

Please realize that "reserves" only happen on "Deliberate Attacks" only battle hexes now since a few patches ago. So reserve activation is even lower when you consider that aspect as well.

Absolutely this is an intended part of the game design. It takes leader roles to commit reserve units, and there's a lot going on under the hood, so it's not something you can totally control. But it was intended as a way to be able to attempt to concentrate additional forces into an attack (with the coordination issues that entails, which are simulated by the die rolls required). You have to be careful though, as if you leave a lot of units on reserve, you may find them committing into battles you didn't want them to be in.
All understanding comes after the fact.

This is one of the ways that you can create a more flowing game rather than just solely an I GO- U GO dynamic--- Leadership sending units to threatened sectors in "real time." However, the only way to specify who they would "reserve for" is just a range dynamic- you can't specify who would be supported or under what circumstances (total emergency of enemy breakthrough vs we have this totally under control) - for defensive reserve anyway.

Okay, thanks. In some ways this show how immersed I am; I am not really thinking TBS (thus, I did not understand why VL points originally appear double counted). So, from an RTS point of view you would never pull back from terrain you wish to hold, but perhaps thin the lines for a push. But I see everyone's point.

Thanks.

PS: HLYA referred to a recent change regarding "battle hexes" and reserves which I do not really get. If someone would be so kind to point me to the relevant change.

Hasty attacks done by an attacker will not activate reserve activation at all. Both defensive and offensive reserve activation. Only deliberate attacks can have reserve activations.

Wow. That is big, since it strips the defender of an important tool. But usually hasty attacks are only good to pursue a successful deliberate attack. So, maybe not such a big deal.

Air support still applies for both?

Thanks.
