Units independently changing their movement routes

Post by JacquesDeLalaing »

So I had this route planned for my unit:

Relevant SOP-settings were: "tactical initiative NONE", "movement: concealment", passengers disembark @ 0.

During turn resolution, there was some action with an opponent, but as the scenario takes place in heavy rain, the unit itself had no contact with this enemy. As the screenshot shows, for some strange reason the unit independently changed its movement route, without me changing any of its orders or moving any waypoint.

I notice this on a pretty regular basis and I have to say it is infuriating. IN this case, it brings my unit into the LOS/ATGM range of enemy positions further to the southwest which I was anticipating (and that's why I had set the route as I did in the first place).

Is there some kind of magic trick to make units stick to the routes that were shown to me when I was planning the order? The best plan is obsolete if units randomly wander off 1km to the right or left, exposing themselves to unsuppressed enemy positions. I guess I could set the waypoints much closer together, but we only get 6 waypoints. Those are not enough to plan a deep, dynamic WP attack...

Also, I don't want to check all my units' movement paths every turn, just to make sure the game doesn't sc*** me over randomly.

Also note that this random change of orders makes the unit expose its flank to the enemy...

I cannot tell for sure, but it might be a friendly barrage or airstrike planned at the West-German units just south of the bridge that causes the Soviet unit to avoid visiting that hex.

I'd appreciate if you could upload the save game, so I can take a look.

Tactical initiative 'none' primarily influences relocation and stand-off thresholds. Not path-finding.
See this 'developer log' (https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9&t=390164) on AI why path-finding needs to be dynamic in order for the player/commander to set-up complex maneuvers.

I only have the file from the turn in which the planned route is already deviating from the originally displayed route (see screenshots in my first post).

The route of all the companies of 3rd btn/295 motor rifle reg. make that strange detour to the south. When I was planning the order, the route went straight into the Dalkingen sink via hexes 1713, 1612, 1512. It seems as if they have suddenly decided to take the road instead of the planned route? This makes planning ... difficult.

@JacquesDeLalain, Same as I mentioned in the other thread. There are two files required to view a saved game, the two files the .sav and the .sav.blr (both have the same name).
