Units runnig in contaminated areas

Post by Radagy »

Hi,
after having my first devastating contact with chemical weapons in "Overture" as NATO player, I reloaded and tried a second run changing my SOP to "avoid NBC".
Nothing changed: my units, both in hasty and deliberate stance, continued to walk in known contaminated areas taking heavy losses.
I'm I missing something or is it a bug?
I'm playing beta 67794.
Thanks

Radagy, do you have a save game we can look at that shows the movement?
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

NATO is going to be just as devasted as you felt the first time they ran into Soviet use of chemical. The scenario demonstrates the Soviet's use of Chemical weapons. They use it to shape the battlefield by isolating portions of the battlefield.

I ran the scenario three times to check to see if the America units were avoiding the contaminated areas. Bottom line is that they are, but it could be tightened up some. Red Storm did a better job at avoiding and I the difference with SS is formations trying to move together as a formation, which you didn't have in Red Storm. The units directly behind the unit that blundered into the contaminated area tended to blunder themselves into it. Other units a little farther back did a better job in trying to avoid. Once in the zone, they seemed confused as to what to do, go back or go forward--that's behavior is really not all that bad. Units in real life who blunder into a contaminated zone will be just as confused.

Here the bottom line. Yes, they are avoiding, but it could be tightened up better, especially for the follow-on units directly behind. NBC is still awork in progress in several areas.

Here it is.
The movement was plotted before chemical shelling and I thought my units were smart enough to change the route to the destination.
Alas, they marched into the gas chamber like lemmings.
