Allies win initiative, no reroll requested, Allies go first.

Allied Impulse #1

Weather roll of 9 makes Arctic Blizzard, Med and N. Temp Snow, N. Monsoon Fine, S. Monsoon Storm and S. Temp Rain.

CW tries a port attack against La Spezia. Italy uses 4 of its 5 surprise points to avoid combat.

All three Allied powers move to protect convoys and set up invasion positions off the coasts of Morocco and Algeria/Tunisia. The US Navy moves to confront the Japanese in the Coral Sea and the Solomons, counting on the Stormy weather to let them get the jump on the CAs there without worrying about air interference.

The CW activates in the East Indian Ocean but is surprise by 4 points. Half are used by the Japanese to minimize damage while the other 2 add attack columns. 1 CW CA is damaged and after, the combat in the area ends.

In the East Med, the Italians bring a NAV into the fray while the Germans bring a strong FTR, both to the 1 box. The CW find with 10 surprise and add all points to offensive air combat. In the combat 1 CVP is exchanged for a German FTR, both with pilots killed. The Italians abort from the air combat. In the 2nd try, an Italian FTR joins the NAV in the 1 box. The CW finds again with 7 surprise, again all going to attacking air. The result is an aborted Italian FTR and the Italian NAV aborting voluntarily before a 2nd round. After the Italian brings in another FTR for a possible 3rd round, both fail their searches.

No other naval combats are successfully joined.

No STRAT Bombing. The Russians attempt an escorted 2-LND GS against a hex SW of Stalino along the Sea of Azov. The Germans intercept. While the German FTR is aborted, 1 LND clear and a second is destroyed with pilot. In any event, the GS is unsuccessful.

Russia sets up to do winter attacks in the north and south. In China, the Communists shuffle the deck chairs, and in the South, the Nationalists do likewise.

A couple of attacks are declared by Russia. One is in Blizzard to the NE of Smolensk, and the other lies to the SW of Stalino. None of the hexes receive Ground Support from either side.

In the north, the odds are terrible despite Russia having winterized... the attacked hex has 2 winter units in it, so that likely explains the matter. Russia chooses Blitz and all attackers are disorganized with no losses on either side... a win for the Russians considering. On the other hand, the winter advantage plays a large difference in the south giving a modified 23 and 2 destroyed Germans.

Rebases are done and Russia reorganizes an FTR in the south.

Axis Impulse #4

Italy and Japan take Naval Actions while Germany takes a Combined.

Japan moves a lot of TRS and AMPH to pick up freed up units in the Philippines and to cover convoys. Also, large surface fleets reach out to the Solomons and Coral Seas. Italy and Germany send out a large SUB fleet to the North and Central Atlantic and Italy covers its assets in the Italian Coast.

While searching the North Atlantic, An Axis SUB is surprised by 5 points. 2 points mitigate damage to the escorts and the others increase attack. The German SUB is damaged. In a 2nd round, again, the CW gets surprise with 6 and attacks the damaged SUB. With adjustment for surprise, the SUB is destroyed. In a third round, the Axis gets surprise of 10. They choose SUB combat and decrease opponent's attack 1 level, saving 4 to target a CV. Axis suffer 1 SUB destroyed, 1 damaged and 1 aborted. The CVL Argus goes down as well as 2 CPs. In a 4th round, the Allied fleet finds again with surprise, but choose to use it to avoid combat.

In Cape St. Vincent, the German SUBs find with 6 Surprise. Seeing a juicy target with Bradley on a TRS, they look to increase damage and select a target. 1 SUB is destroyed and 1 is damaged. Unfortunately, it is found that after selecting target, an X result is still not available, but nevertheless, the French TRS with Bradley is aborted to England.

In East Polynesia, the Japanese find 2 unescorted CPs with 11 surprise. 2 lower damage to the SUB, and the others are in attack to sink the CPs.

There are no other successful searches in the many other sea zones where they are attempted.

No STRAT bombing is done, nor are there any GSs.

Germany rails a MTN to Northern Russia. Germany moves to strengthen its Russian Southern Front.

No attacks are made and minimal reorganization is undertaken except for a German MTN being redone in the North.

Allied Impulse #7

Weather, with a 2, is Snow in the Arctic, Storm in the North Temperate, Rain in the S. Monsoon, and Fine everywhere else.
All allied powers declare war on Vichy France. USA takes a super-combined using an OFF chit. France takes a combined. All other Allies take Lands.

The USA moves units to confront the Japanese in the Coral Sea and the Solomons.

In the Coral Sea, the American CV fleet catches the Japanese by surprise, 5. Four are used to decrease AAA. In the first round, after AAA, a Super-BB is damaged and another ordinary BB is aborted. There is no 2nd round.

In the West Med, the Axis finds with 1 surprise. The air combat that ensues sees the CW CVP aborted and 2 bombers cleared... AAA makes 3 air-sea factors to hit. Mediocre rolls see a CV and CL damaged and a failed abort on an AMPH. Before the next round, 4 CW FTRs take advantage of the opportunity to enter the 0 and 2 box of the West Med. There is no 2nd round.

In the East Med, Allies find with 5 points surprise and increase A-A by 2 columns. Italy is forced to destroy its FTR and the German NAV aborts the combat. Italy and Germany abort the sea area seeing as there is nothing really to keep in supply in Libya or Egypt any more.

No other Naval Combat activations are successful by either side.

No STRAT Bombing is done. GS against Rabat and Damascus. 2 units in Damascus are disorganized as is the unit in Rabat.
No rail moves for the allies. Given the terrible weather in the south and disorganized units in the north, Russia just moves a few units, regretting not having taken a combined during this turn. French and CW forces enter Syria and allies continue to close in on Tunis. Some CW INF and MIL debark from AMPHs near Algiers. Some units debark into Gibralter from Cape St. Vincents.

A mixed US-CW force invades Rabat directly. An attack is also directed against Damascus and another against Dakar. Bombardment and Ground Support added where able.

Dakar is attacked first. It is taken without loss. As is Damascus. In Rabat, the defender defects to the Allies and there is no completed combat.

Rebases of various A/C occurs.

The turn does not end on a 10>2.

Axis Impulse #9

Germany takes a Land and Italy/Japan take combineds.

Japan flies a FTR into the 4 box in the Coral Sea. In Naval movement, it moves a huge CV fleet there to search for the US fleet there.

Activating in the Solomons, Japan gets mild surprise of 2 points. They are used to increase AAA. After that, a Japanese CA is damaged. In the next round, the USA gains 3 surprise points. Surprise is used to increase damage columns. An already damaged CL is destroyed and another CL is damaged for Japan while a CA is aborted. There is no 3rd round.

In the Coral Sea, the USA finds with 5 surprise points. They choose a surface combat. No surprise on either side, for the US 1 CA is destroyed and 2 BBs are aborted. For Japan, 2 CL are destroyed and 1 CA is damaged. The Americans decide to abort from the sea zone.

Italy activates in the Central Atlantic, but the CW finds with 2 surprise points which are used to increase damage. 2 Allied CLs are aborted while 1 SUB is damaged and another aborted, ending combat in the zone.

There is no STRAT bombing done by the Axis. Italian and German LNDs move in to GS Smolensk in mass with escorts. No intercept occurs due to overwhelming air superiority of the Germans. All three defenders are disorganized.

Germany moves to strengthen its south and to make a winter attack on Smolensk. Japan drops units off of TRS/AMPH/CAs into different areas (notably, an HQ in Truk). Italy carries a German PARA Div into Smolensk with escort. It is not intercepted as well.

There is one German attack declared vrs Smolensk. Three LND move to add Ground Support. There are 3 FTR available to intercept. Russia sends in 6 LND and 3 FTR. 2 German FTRs are destroyed while 1 is aborted and an LND is destroyed and 1 aborted. For Russia, 2 FTR and 1 LND are destroyed but the rest get through.

Russia chooses an assault. Of course, Germany rolls a 5 to get a 16 result. It losed a PARA Div and a MTN Div. Russia loses a MIL.

Rebases are done.

Turn does not end 10>1.

Allied Impulse #11

With a 9, Weather is Blizzard in Arctic, Snow in North Temp and Med, fine in N. Monsoon, Storm in S. Monsoon and Rain in S. Temperate.

The CW, France and USA all take a combined Action. China and the USSR take Lands.

The USA conducts a port attack against 2 CAs stationed in Truk. The Port Defenders deploy a smoke screen and the attacking bombers go off-target and no combat occurs.

For Naval Movement, a couple of CW TRS are moved out of the Med into CSV sea area and pick up the successful Moroccan Invasion forces. A Marine by Algiers is also picked up.

Allies successfully search CSV finding the Vichy CP there with 9 surprise. It is destroyed to the uttermost possible. No other combats occur.

CW does a STRAT Bombing run on both Lille and Brussels, with some escorts. Germany divides its interceptors in 2 parts, 1 for each. Over Lille, the German FTR is destroyed while one of two bombers heads home without dropping its bombs. Over Brussels, all bombers clear while the German FTR is aborted. A total of 1 BP is lost in the bombings of the cities.
The USA moves units around West Africa. De Gaulle moves into Beirut displacing the 2 Vichy CL there... 1 makes it to Marseilles while the other is caught and found for 3 surprise points and is damaged. A second round of combat finds the CW having to use its surprise to avoid combat against a NAV/FTR. The CW starts moving units towards Iraq. Russia shuffles a number of units around.

A few rebases and no reorganizations occur.

The turn ends on a 2<6.

Allies Impulse #1

Weather is fine everywhere with an 8.

USA, CW and France take naval while China and the USSR take land actions.

An American FTR and CW NAV move into the 4 box in the Coral Sea while an American Lightning moves into the 5 box in the Western Med.

Allies move many TRS and CPs to fill convoy gaps as well as various light ships to protect the lines. The USA specifically moves some units into the Coral Sea and Solomons to confront the Japanese units therein. Finally, the West Med sees considerable ships moved into it.

Americans find in the Solomons with 4 surprise. All points are put on attack columns. The Japanese CA is sunk and the zone cleared.

Americans find in the Coral Sea with 7 surprise. In Air combat, the USA has 1 NAV cleared, 1 CVP destroyed, 1 CVP and an FTR aborted while Japan has 3 CVP destroyed and 1 aborted. Faced with a stronger FTR left for the Japanese, the Allies abort a CVP and NAV bombers from air combat. Using 2 of the 7 surprise, AAA is negated in the Air-sea portion. 2 are used for damage and 3 to select target. CV Kaga is damaged and a CA aborted. In a 2nd round, the Japanese gain 6 surprise and use it to avoid combat.

In the North Atlantic, a German SUB finds with surprise. It uses 4 to choose SUB combat and 2 to mitigate damage. It is, nevertheless, destroyed. 1 CP is destroyed and 3 aborted.

The Naval combat phase has ended.
