SOP - Direct Fire Disciple

Post by Frustalupi »

Hello, I have an unclear idea about the SOP. If a unit have Direct Fire disciple Medium Range (2/3 Hex), that's mean if an enemy unit is at 4 hex, will be ignored? What is the point to choose a medium or short range instead of use the max range ? Just for save ammunition in case of hard shot in long range?

Medium range is 2/3 (66%) of the max range for the weapon system. Depending on that unit's max range (say 3000m), this might mean a threat won't be engaged when beyond 2000m (4 hexes) but will be engaged when at 2000m or close.

There are at least two purposes for setting a shorter than max range for fire discipline:
- spend ammunition on shorter range shots that have a higher probability of hitting the target
- align with other nearby units to simultaneously engage the threat only in a certain location (kill box, ambush). That might be a reason to restrict a unit to not fire to soon.
