After last weeks disasters for The Western Allies there is a lull in the fighting as both sides take stock of the situation.
PanzerArmee Afrika's defence along the Coast for this long has even surprised the High Command, but even Rommel knows this will not last forever, something needs to be done soon before The Allied forces eventually overwhelm them.

The battle For Leningrad continues as 18th Armee launches another attack against the City's defenders forcing them to fall back.
Small gains along The Volkhov River but The Soviets have reinforced there defences there making it near impossible at this time to take the ports on the lake. to the Southeast the enemy is deploying Tank Corps in a effort to deny the city of Tikhvin a strategic rail centre in the North.

Kempf's Armee pushes forward and Vladai is captured as well as a encirclement of an Inf Corps East of Malaya Vishera, enemy forces in this area are now spread thin giving us a chance to take more ground before the mud season arrives.

On the 16th Armee Front the pocket holds as troops begin to tighten there grip around the encircled enemy forces. if I can quickly destroy these trapped troops it will free up the better part of 2 full Armee's which are desperately needed down South, also gives me a chance to launch an attack against Kalinin.

The Soviets still reeling from the shock of the scale of 9th Armee, 4th Armee and 3rd Pz Armee's counter offensives, rush troops forward and launch attacks of there own, one successful attack extricates there comrades from a 3rd Pz' Armee pocket, they also take back some ground. On the 9th's Front though the Armee keeps pushing forward taking ground as they enemy has redeployed troops away from there to counter 3rd Pz and 4th Armee.

The situation here is serious Soviet forces have smashed through the paper thin defences, there is now a 130 mile gap between the remnants of the 8th Italian and 2nd Hungarian Armies, enemy troops are now moving towards The Aidar River and threatening supply lines,2 German Divisions are being transferred from the West which should arrive in about a week to shore up the crumbling defences.

Good news I was able to through up a wall North of 1st Pz Armee and cut off and destroy the enemy units that had managed to infiltrate behind our lines, 1st Pz Armee is now at the Kuban River it will dig in here and make its stand, once again a lot Guard units leading the charge against us, if they breakthrough the lines held by 17th Armee they could easily reach Rostov, one thing in my favour I do have 1 Panzer Division here supporting the Inf.

On The Black Sea relatively quiet, Tuapse is still isolated as is Sochi, there has been no real effort by the enemy to push 17th Armee back and reopen the land link to both Ports, while the enemy is content to sit on the defensive I see no reason at this time to push the issue with ground troops, I will simply mount a air blockade of the Ports.

As the rain clears from the sky's Montgomery's 8th Army seems to be holding its positions not willing to commit to any major battles, more British infantry units have arrived, intelligence believes the new formations are the British 50th (Northumbrian) and 51st ( highland ) Divisions, both units fought at El Alamein with The 51st apposing The 21st Panzer Division.
As more enemy units arrive the odds begin to swing in favour for the Western Allies, with The Axis forces already vastly outnumbered in armour and now fresh Inf, for Rommel this development means there needs to be a revaluation of the whole North African strategy by High Command.

18th Armee launches another assault against the defenders at Leningrad with more success, driving 3 enemy units back towards The Finnish frontier, we are very close to cutting off the Port City.

At Volkhov there is bitter resistance by Red Army units which launch a number of counter attacks, at Budogoshch and Kirishi the enemy is massing a large force including 3 tank Corps, my troops already weakened by the constant battles will be hard pressed to hold here.

16th Armee maintains its momentum and drives the trapped Russian Forces into a smaller pocket in preparation to destroy them. The Soviets make some effort to try rescue there trapped comrades but with most of there troops moved to counter 3rd Pz Armee there is little they can do.

The battle swings back and forth on 3rd Pz Armee's front, General Reinhardt orders another offensive this time aimed at Kaluga, the city is taken. This is a feint to confuse the enemy as the real objective is Torzhok and kalinin.
While 3rd Pz ties down enemy forces 9th Armee strikes forward forcing the few Red Army units covering this part of the line back, so far the plan seems to be working.

Further along the front the battle between The Guards and 1SS Pz Korps continues , however a second Guards formation has entered the battle and attacked a weakened section of 2nd Pz Armee's line, forcing a gap 30 miles wide, also on the southern flank of the SS 2nd Armee is under pressure once again with a huge force now attacking, already jaded from constant attacks the Armee once again seems close to collapsing as it now faces a fresh onslaught from Soviet armour.

With a huge gap in the line and virtually know one to stop the enemy it seem as if the entire Southern wing of The Ostheer would be cut off, there was nothing to stop The Soviets, however it seems the enemy's High Command feels that the Hungarian 2nd Army and 6th Armee are still a threat so the vast majority of its attacking force has been diverted to attack those formations.
This could give me the breathing space I need to find troops and plug the breach, I have Romanian units on rest and refit that may soon be able to be rushed back into the line as well as more German units on the way to the area.I may yet manage to stave off this disaster for now anyway, just need to hold them for 2 to 3 weeks.

Just as things were looking good for our withdrawing forces from Stalingrad an event that will cause a shock wave throughout Wehrmacht and shake the beliefs of the German Officer Corps to its foundations.
Erich von Manstein the lead architect behind 6th Armee's escape from certain destruction at Stalingrad has been dismissed by Hitler, at a meeting at his HQ with Hitler the General argued that stripping 6th Armee of several divisions at this crucial time when they were desperately needed to maintain numbers in the front line in case of any new threat by enemy forces. Manstein maintained with very few reserves and the constant to Army Group Dons Northern Flank the divisions should not be withdrawn.
Hitler flew into a rage and relived the General of his command. This act could have far reaching implications in the not to distant future.
