Missing terrain, islands, reefs in South China Sea map data

Post by C7M3s0g1T8 »

Hello
I am struggling to create a SCS scenario involving Malaysian and Vietnamese outposts, islands, reefs in the South China Sea. Is there anything I can do to import small pieces of terrain above sea level where these places exist, real-world, in CMO? Any planned updates to include these locations?
Thank you for your support and simulation

You might need to be more specific to what is missing. Some of the SCS islands and reefs are so small as to be unrealistic to have on the map. But there are ways to get facilities set up at the locations. There might even be some already built in the import threads. But without specifics, its hard to tell.

The Stamen - Terrain layer displays the land masses, but the elevation associated with them has negative values so I am unable to place units there.

Specifically, I am looking at:

Amboyna Cay 7°53'31.04"N 112°55'16.32"E
Namyit Island 10°10'46.00"N 114°22'0.00"E
Pearson Reef 8°58'31.96"N 113°42'31.00"E
Sand Cay 10°22'30.00"N 114°28'48.00"E
Sin Cowe Island 9°53'7.00"N 114°19'47.00"E
Southwest Cay 11°25'46.00"N 114°19'53.00"E
Spratly Island 8°38'42.00"N 111°55'11.00"E

Is there anything I could possibly provide to initiate a solution?

I didn't have any issues when I built the imports for them, and all of the facilities are in the proper locations.

I do not see the specified locations available for import when I follow this path: Editor > Import/Export Units > Load units/groups from file > and then expand the selections for Malaysia and Vietnam

Where would I find the imports you built, Kushan04?

@Kushan04, I found an ImportExport post of yours from 2022 that I think you might be referring to. Unfortunately, the islands and reefs that you created facilities for are not the ones I am looking to build.

You could create the facilities anywhere in land and then move to the locations you want

Thank you, Deserere

And thank you, blu3s. I just tried what you suggested and it worked.

Below are 3 sources to support adding terrain to the locations in question.
