Or with spotting range reduced by 50%. Agreed on all other points, incl. Russian weather. While it could certainly get warm and sunny for a few days here and there in the cold months, it wouldn't stay that way for the whole length of a SC turn (1.5 to 2 weeks). And if it did get warm AFTER a substantial snowpack had formed, you'll still get instant mud.

As another aside-is the new 4 range sub dive distance working correctly? I've only been watching AARs as I slave away on my scenario, but I still see them diving just a max of 2. Again wish for editor control of this parameter-would appear to be room in the Advanced Research tab, under the Subs header-just slide all other elements down 2 spaces. This would also allow tech to impact sub dive distances (a Type XXI would get much farther away than a Type II).

The subs' maximum possible diving range has been increased to 4, however what this means is that it will initially attempt to dive 1 hex, if it can't because there isn't space it will attempt to dive 2 hexes, then 3, then 4.

So you may well still only see it diving 1 or 2, depending on how full of ships the seas are.

Agree with the other commenters that planes should function at exactly 50% across all their statistics -- including deentrenchment, demoralization, combat, range, and spotting -- in bad weather.

Actually it would be nice if there was a meaningful difference between moderately bad weather and severely bad weather, but so far I haven't really noticed one. Rain and snow and mud and frozen ground all seem to function very similarly in practice. I know there are slight differences according to the manual, but it's not clear to me yet why I should take them into account during strategy.

Want to slow down the Allied Bombardment of France, how about AA-defense given some love, to actually do something.

Axis advantage depends on the skill of the players.

How about expanding ships ZOC?

I like the 50% effective flying in bad weather. The change feels consistent with ground combat in bad weather and gives a more realistic flow to air operations (e.g. not all or nothing).

I echo / support the following great points from other posters:
- De-entrenchment and de-moralization in bad weather should be 50%
- The change also enhances carrier combat. Helps keep surface combat in bad weather more honest.
- There should be a risk of taking a point(s) of Ops damage (be nice if this %/amount could be Editor set).

Note I only play the AI.

Have a great holiday all.
Agreed. And agreed recon should be included.

This problem (IMO) also links into another issue I brought up before. The weather in the western USSR from Oct through Mar each year.

I think from Oct to March no 'Clear' Weather other than Frozen should happen at all. Mud, Frozen, Rain and particularly Snow should happen. Frozen is fine as the Axis can move easily if they desire since the ground is like concrete. Attacks of course are reduced dramatically when operating air or ground units while frozen. This is realistic. What isn't is clear summer weather in November or Dec. For either side. I have been repeatedly surprised with my Soviet plans thinking "Oh its November next turn...at least bad weather of some type is going to happen". Next Axis turn= The Germans making garlands of Tulips and Begonias for their victorious vanguards. 🌼🌷🌹

Seen this every year in every WaW match I have played the last few years. Even felt bad as the Axis when this happened. (I'm a sportsman btw)

Anyways, I brought up the USSR winter weather issue again on this air mechanic thread because it directly compounds the issues raised about the latter.

My humble opinion of course. 🙂
Curious why is this more of an issue in WAW vs WIE?

Maybe because of more turns with WiE then WaW. I'm not sure. Are there not like 15 turns in WiE in a year? That's what I have seen. I know that with only 13 turns in a year with WaW...having a clear spring weather turn in Nov makes things more acute for the Soviets if it happens during an Axis turn.

Wasn't so bad with my recent test of the WiE-TRP mod which has double the turns concerning seeing clear weather in the winter in the Moscow area in October, November, or December. One in a blue moon one side or another had a 'clear' weather turn..but with more turns for the winter it wasn't an issue as the Axis got bogged down pretty realistically.

Anyways my opinion is that the weather in the western USSR should be more severe from Oct to April. Its pretty accurate east of the Urals I have noticed though.

OCB, TRP has its own weather separate from vanilla

Oh that's right...and its pretty accurate.
Still the point stands with vanilla WiE...a few more turns for the year. Or better yet...with WaW..a short fall/winter season made acutely shorter with one or two clear weather turns inbedded when the random number goddess throws favor on the Axis. 💃💫💫💫🌄

I think planes flying in winter are to strong, especially on barbarossa where the soviet doesnt have an airforce in a competetive game. Its said they would deal half the damage but they are often dealing 2 points or something in winter.
The Soviet (in WiE) is dying to Germany anyway when he comes in early may and doesnt waste any time with little settlements but thats another issue.
I think planes should be capped at dealing 1 strength point at best in winter which still can be significant when Germany throws its entire airforce in one area - he will nuke em anyway.
Winter should be a rest for the Soviet which he desperately needs especially after the next nerf for his mobilization...
