Panzer Leader Campaign LoS

Post by benpark »

I'm having an odd issue with the Panzer Leader campaign LoS. Most of my units are limited in visibility to the hex they occupy. One or two have the LoS displayed as expected. This is also showing in the initial set-up. 3 of the units have limited LoS to their hex, while the HQ has it displayed to the visible hexes. As more units arrive, this also is the case.

Did I hit some HQ display only toggle, inadvertently? I did get enemy contacts, and can see my friendly spotting unit if I select it from the menu.

I'm having an excellent time with this, otherwise.

I just Czeched the Czechoslovak campaign- everything looking correct as far as LoS display there.

I haven't got a chance to play Panzer Leader Campaign.
What is the time and weather when the scenario started?

As below. The issue is that it is inconsistent between units, and does not change through the scenario. Some units never display their LoS when that overlay is selected (and they obviously "see" enemy units when checked).

Two units, same hex(top image). This unit displays the visible hexes in LoS. The second image shows the LoS tool limited to only the same hex as the selected unit. LoS is toggled to "On", using the tick-box at the bottom left of the UI (always on).

This is the case for the rest of the units on-map, and most that arrive as reinforcements. As this is a tool that is indispensable for game-play, it makes this campaign unplayable as I'm experiencing it.

Anyone else, that has played this seeing the same thing? Every other scenario seems fine.

I think everything is correct. This mission takes place during a very foggy day so all your units that don't have an ground search radar (everything besides one recon) can't see things that are outside their own hex or one hex next to them if I remember correct. Things clear up a bit later on but this is usually so late that you don't have the time to wait until then. This isn't the case for the American units equipped with Thermals. Best way to win this mission is using your ground search radar recon to spot enemies or sacrifice a few low value unit to make enemies reveal their position and finish them off with Artillery. This is a very hard but fun campaign with many challenges. Currently at mission four but it does not seem like things will get easier.

Thanks, that makes sense, and also explains why the HQ has visibility. The visibility window could certainly use an explicit icon for "fog", though.

What does the "2000-2133" on the weather window signify?

Indeed, it's the BRM-1T ground search radar which provide long range detection capability, which the other units lack. Here is some debug info:

Thanks for the clarifications. I got my eyes back on, and see the 50m visibility.

The great thing about the game is the amount of data going on, and the ability to tweak unit behaviors based on all of it. That's also the challenge.

I may save this campaign for last, as that visibility makes it a tough go. The Czechoslovak one is a good one to start on, even though I'm still getting (more mildly) mauled.
