Soviet setup

In the North and cental part I just use lots of if corps to try and hold riverlines and a few zoc bumps. Kepp mech units mostly in reserve at the back. I dont do garrison mode as I want the units to retreat and with 5 move you can run better :) .

In the south similar to center mostly lines of inf corps with mech in the back.

In this case I should have noted that there were Axis mech units both in Poland and Rumania with a certain encirclement risk. I did not care and did not adjust anything which as you will see was a costly mistake.

Greece

April 41

This was nice. A long time since I saw a war in greece but in a lightning quick campaign the Axis conquers Greece. The Royal navy sortie but of course fails to find the Italian navy. Also there seems to be some bug as the UK navy is 10 big when 9 is supposed to be maximum.

And in Africa it is all silent. There are too many axis units there for the UK to be able to do anything. Will be some time before anything happens there I think.

Ok been lazy long enough time to get these AARs moving again. I am now like 9 months or so behind where we are in the game. That is the disadvantage of lagging the AAR I forget exactly what happened and what I wanted to write but nevermind I will carry on nevertheless.

Happy New Year everyone!

If I remember correctly there was rain the first turn of May so the invasion started on the 23rd.

Here is the situation in the northern part.

And here the southern part. As you can see as I warned in earlier post the northern and southern pincers almost connect and I will lose a fair amount of units next turn.

All in all I counted 11 Axis mech/arm units which made me feel pretty confident that I could hold but as will be seen I was pretty wrong. Also note that digital Adolf must have put a lot of pressure on Il Duce as there are a lot of Italians coming to join the party in the east.

In the Mediterranean the Royal Navy angry with the way the Italian navy avoided detection outside the coast of Greece decides to follow and try to strike the enemy in the port of Taranto. Big mistake. The responsible admiral have been fired as it all turns into a fiasco. Again the carriers fail to bomb the harbour and they are harassed by clouds of enemy landbased air and the Illustrious CV goes down.

In the South most of the trapped units are eliminated and digital Stalin is already starting to feel a bit uncomfortable.

In the north it looks like most of the axis mech units are heading towards Leningrad.
Here you can see my Leningrad defense in practice with the army starting in Leningrad not defending in but outside of the city (the 9 strength unit).

In the center with most axis mech units heading towards Leningrad I just retreat one hex to try and keep the German infantry at a distance. The not so good result of the fact that I lost so many units in the south is that most of my reinforcements headed to the southern part of the front resulting in the units defending Moscow is of not very good quality. Usually I have the bad units in the south and the good in front of Moscow.

In the south I scramble for more units as the Axis mech units head more south than towards Moscow. Lots of Axis units in the south scary :).

In the north the enemy is approaching the gates of Leningrad. My digital soldiers are ready to defend the mother city of the revolution and looking at the state of the German mech units I feel I have a chance to hold. I do start to use my airforce a little bit here but with the usual very bad outcome ie my planes dropping like flies :).

You can also see there was a little bit of action but not much in Finland.
