[FIXED] Submarine Tutorial 2.1 graphics and briefing issues

Post by User1984 »

1. In the game a large black box with text covers the map.

2. The briefing is incomplete.

See the attached images.

The large black box is the balloon message associated with the special message thats in the message log. it will only come up when you hover the mouse over the specific message. It disappears after a few seconds. You can turn off message bubbles in options. Large and long messages like this always look a little weird when they come up. I think the cut off message is only missing the word patience and its period.

hello,
I've tried several times but I'm unable to detect the HAN, strange!
I remember to have done this tutorial in the past without any problem.
Could the latest beta 1300.1 change anything regarding completion of this tutorial ?
thanks for help

If you're worried about something changing in a specific build, might be good to say what build you first used.

Also, I would strongly suggest running tutorials in the last stable build. Things change a lot in the betas and trying to sort out what changed while learning the game will lead to some frustration.

yes indeed, this tutorial is working well with the stable release, I've just rolled back to test it.
thanks for this insight

The tutorial instructs you to set your throttle to "creep" (ie. 5 knots).

However for the screenshot above it seems that your sub is at 22 knots, which is way too fast (most towed-array sonars stop working above 15 knots or so, and are really optimized for ~5 knots operating speed).

If you do slow down at 5 knots, do you get the detection?

Screenshots are not mine, sorry because my question is diverging from the initial topic subject, but yes i confirm I'm using creep speed and descending just below layer as recommended per the briefing.
This works well in the stable but not in the "tiny" build 1300.1 for me. My sub isn't detecting anything ( Han nor biologic).

Confirming this, the tutorial doesn't work at all with the Tiny beta, but following the instructions I do get a detection in stable - in the CZ. In Tiny I ran this in god mode as well as in normal and was getting no CZ detection in multiple attempts running shallow, just above and just under the layer. In Tiny the Han was running at -900 or so feet.

I followed the instructions in the tutorial. At certain points it says to use flank or full speed. I was unable to detect the enemy sub even at creep speed.

Built a test scenario to see better what is happening. Just hit start and watch when the Seawolf first detects the han. I have the Han screaming in and Seawolf never gets a hint of the Han until the Han crosses the closest convergence zone. Its consistent with what seems to be all other subs as well. So there is something up with the interaction of the convergence zones.
