I used to do canoe trips as a kid. Leeches, B-17 mosquitos the whole bit. It's fun. Not sure I could talk anyone into it at this time. Maybe a couple of brothers or nephews but not too many women want to do that. It is also kind of nice to take a hot shower after fishing all day.

That is why either staying at a resort or cruising on a houseboat would be nice for you. If anyone is disabled or has difficulty in getting around, then the Veterans on the Lake Resort may be a good idea since some of their cabins are set up for wheelchair use. I think some of their boats as well. Prices tend to go down after Labor Day and after the first frost, there are a lot fewer mosquitoes.

Near Ely there is a bear center with resident bears,

https://bear.org/

https://www.facebook.com/NorthAmericanBearCenter

One wild bear even has her own facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/lily.the.black.bear

There is also an International Wolf Center near Ely, Mn.

https://wolf.org/

So there would be things to do near Ely that don't involve fishing if someone wants a break from that.

Not that I have been to those places, mind you. I have heard of them however.

I am trying to post some discussion of the end of wah but I am getting "Fatal Error 200" on game start up.

I knew it was dangerous to look at all that porn but I just couldn't help myself

I think it has to do with work related software like Citrix installs but who the Hell knows.

Ideas?

Yes, I tried that but I get an invalid serial number error on installation. I sent a service email.

It was a dark and stormy night...and then the sun came up

Mid Sept 1943(e) (I think). Allies control all of New Guinea which is quite built up, the Lesser Sundas, Western Timor, Bali, Southern Flores, SW coast of Java.

Japs still have Sulawese, Ternate, Lolobato, Kendari and Menado. They hold the Ceram bases too but the airfields are flattened.

Allies finally gave up the ghost on Luzon after wrecking several Jap divisions. Remnants and some reinforcements by air arrived in Mindanao and are being ground down by a very large Jap force of perhaps 8 divisions. The whole Allied effort is to get to the guys on Mindanao. To that end Sumatra was invaded and Java too to soak off Jap ground units and air forces.

A large Jap amphibious force was spotted in the Makassar St possibly headed for Bali or Sumatra. The US carriers sprinted toward Bali, Wasp got torpedoed by a Jap sub and then the sun came up and the KB was in the Java Sea. Heap big carrier battle already discussed.

A giant carrier furball results in the claimed loss of Soryu, Chuyo and Ryujo and significant damage to 5 US carriers including the sub attack on Wasp.

Very heavy plane losses on both sides but especially for IJN carrier bombers. The IJN carriers seem mostly to recover in Borneo and the US carriers to Bali and Northern Oz. Four Allied carriers are undamaged and they stay near Bali to protect Wasp and prevent damaged IJN ships from going to Java or Singers. Meanwhile, Allied airborne troops begin landing at Banjermasin on Borneo and consolidating on Java. Allies reach Soerabaja but there is a very strong Jap force. I will require a siege and reduction by air.

After several days of pumping out seawater and air group recovery, a large IJN carrier force again moves South down the Makassar St. They have NO bombers so I figure it is damaged carriers trying to make Singers. Southern Java is packed with IJN and USMC SBD's and TBF's along with hundreds of Corsairs and P-38's and 47's all under unified air command. It is a thing of beauty. Allied carriers move South. Light USN surface forces move up from Bali to intercept. RN runs the Sunda St to cut them off from the West. It was BRILLIANT I tell you, BRILLIANT!

Then the sun comes up and they have barely moved. It's not a sickly group of cripples. It's an amphibious force for Banjermasin! The USN surface group manages to get in among the carriers and troop transports but runs into an equally matched group and the two groups duke it out all night and into the day. Montpelier and a DD are badly damaged but make it back to Java. The transports are unimpeded. PT boats also attack the carriers but get no hits. Then the massive Allied air armada from Java arrives over the carriers but the first wave does not have enough fighters and they just get massacred by a CAP of > 200 planes. Maybe 100+ SBD's lost. Not a single carrier bomb hit. Very large number of Jap fighters also lost. Most of the Jap brigade gets ashore and they just go back to Central Borneo like it was a picnic outing. The next day the LYB's attack and about 1000 engineers and paras go into the bag.

A visual remembrance of WWIIe courtesy of Bing Art AI

Dec7, 1941. The Little Yellow Bastards stage on all out attack on Manila area naval facilities and airfieds, smashing 20 subs and wrecking Clark. USS Pope tries to make a run for it but is hit and loses 3 funnels. :) Even worse the war criminals seem to have painted Italian markings on the tails of the Kates.

This B-17 was grounded at Clark owing to a severe vibration problem from the port inboard engine

HMS PoW gets in among a Jap Carrier division in the Java Sea at night. Looks like some enterprising lads added a few forward main guns! :D

If I were a graphic designer I think I would start up a lawn maintenance business. Some of these are frighteningly good. The color bleed over in the water colors looks authentic just like you put a brush loaded with watercolor to paper. The ink drawings are really good even if the thing leaves out a few propeller blades or the B-17 sort of looks like a C-47 with guns glued on. Check out the moodiness and emotion conveyed in the following "charcoal drawing".

December 25, 1941. Australian troops tried to hold out in Rabaul.

"Australian troops in a foxhole in Rabaul". The AI works out Rabaul has some jungle features.

Good to see you back Cap! Would be better if those images showed up here. Did you use a link to another site? Sometimes those sites are country restricted.

You have to be careful what you tell the AI to do because it is deliberately coded to do fantasy art. For example..."Artillery attack on harbor defenses in Rabaul in WWII"

What does it do? Why, it shows an amphibious artillery attack, of course. Something like 20 cm guns on wooden barges with battering rams and wooden oars. It's like the Battle of Salamis with modern artillery and the green hills of Rabaul in the background. Really cool colored pencil sketch.
