AS and Interdiction

Post by jasonbroomer »

From my server game from HLYA

Both HLYA and I flew AS over the same hex

HLYA also flew an interdiction over the hex

This was run independently of the AS and my AS had zero impact on the interdiction. This occurred across various hexes of the front but I am detailing only one example.

Interestingly, my AS did not fly other than day 1 (or perhaps it had no impact if it did), despite been ordered to so. Soviet interdiction continued through the week unopposed.

Is something not WAD when competing AS is mixed with interdiction over a hex?

What altitude was your AS set at? My bombers were flying at 8,000 and AS was set at 15,000 for the Western Front area.

What was the supply level of the AS airbase? What was the Air miles traveled during your turn(this is a big one if you staged during the turn) Were you on a long haul AS? How many hexes was your AS setup for?

Set at 9,000 ft. Perhaps this should have been higher(?)

area was size 3, staged at Lepel. The AS that occurred was at the limit of their feeble range (c. 12 hexes).

Yes, they had probably used some air miles. I'm guessing around 20-30% travelled at most.

9,000 for interception was fine on my bombers flying at 8,000.

IMO you would have been better flying(stage) them to Vitsbek first. Then set up the AS on Vitsbek with an 8 hex radius out from Vitsbek(air miles flown there will dictate your radius of course) the Green box shows the AS radius. This gives a nice cushion over enemy territory to see those incoming bombers.

Or you could have left what you had and thrown a Stab flight over my territory to see incoming better. Joel has said many times it is harder to detect flights over enemy territory. But takes careful planning and moving of air units around but can be done by the Germans. They are more than capable of getting Fighter cover in place.

To the moderator:

This part of the game seems to be WAD. Please could this thread be moved to the war room?
