Just bought shadow empire.

Post by janamdo »

It's kind of fun because the creator is of Dutch descent and so am I.
Opened Shadow Empire and looked around the game a bit.
The initial situation is important and it looks like I am a leader of a city-state somewhere on a planet.
Apparently there are enemies on this planet and I will have to defend myself.
Is it my intention to rule the entire planet ?
Somewhere there was a galactic federation right, which was lost and this planet is one of them ?
Is there a higher purpose , other than ruling the planet ?
Well, just some things that come to mind.

Yes, that's the basic gist of the game.

The old galactic republic has collapsed and 10's of thousands of worlds became isolated and barbaric with collapsed technology. As players, we try to rebuild a new civilization on one of those worlds (a different world every time you restart a new game) by leading a small city-state to eventually conquer the planet.

While the game has detailed models of politics, private economy, public economy, government, and other social structures it is primarily a military war game where you lead your nation by building up the military and engaging your neighbors - that is if they don't attack you first.

==============================

It's a fairly difficult game to play at higher levels - I'd recommend playing at the lower difficulty settings until you get the hang of how all the parts of your regime interplay. There are a pile of good videos and other learning tools out there to help. Dastactic did good video for beginners here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-czjk-OKacg

In the end, Shadow Empire is an excellent game well worth the effort of figuring it out if you like this style of gaming.
