Few "squadron subpart/leftover" (#/xxx name) questions...

Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

I have UV for long long time now (years and months) and consider myself quite an expert but I still get surprised now and then... :-)

IMHO it's just another proof how great UV really is (IMHO best game of this genre ever)!

When your carrier is damaged above 50% the air operations are impossible and, thus, the "squadron subparts" are created when parts of air squadrons are diverted elsewhere.

Those "squadron subparts" are with #/xxx name and, so far, all is OK and perfectly sound.

But, while playing one of my PBEMs, I asked myself the following questions...

#1
What happens when "squadron subparts" become "squadron leftovers" because carrier with main part is lost (i.e. sunk with aircraft on board)?

In such cases I see that full squadron is not in list or reinforcements (i.e. it is not on list to be reconstructed) and therefore one would suspect that "squadron subpart" that now become sole "squadron leftover" would become main unit but this is not happening... [:(]

#2
What will happen if you withdraw/disband such "squadron leftover"?

Any ideas gentleman?

#1 As far as I know the leftover sqd is not reconstituted. It will remain as it is and not receive reinforcements or upgrade to new ac models.
An example; The USS Enterprise was sunk and a 8 plane strong Devastator partial sqd landed in Townsville. 3 months later it's still made up of 8 ac and Devastators, even though 20 Avengers are available in the pool.
#2 If you withdraw/disband the leftover it will be gonners...Bye bye, only way to get rid of em

Someone pls correct me if I'm wrong :)

I use the fractioned sqd's to perform asw and other missions well suited for small units. Sometimes it's handy - but I admit that I'd prefer to get the full sqd back.

Can you disband that partial squadron into a larger one at the same base?

Hi all,

You can disband and/or withdraw the "squadron subparts" / "squadron leftovers" but the question after that is whether that is good thing to do because that unit is then, apparently, gone for good (and would never reinstitute)...

When you disband a squadron your planes and pilots join another squadron
of the same type in the same base.[:)]

I am not sure if you take two partial squadrons and withdraw them together, do they
become an active reinforced squadron?[&:]
any help on this subject is appreciated.

No partial sqn will become an 'active' one again - no matter how you withdraw/reinforce them.
You'll be needing the mother unit no matter what, and if that one went down with it's ship....Adios!

Yep... 100% true...

But what I would like to know is whether destroyed squadron from sunken CV would ever again reconstruct and reappear as reinforcement...

If that is true it would make sense to withdraw/disband the "squadron subparts" that become "squadron leftovers" because you would get new unit after some time.

BTW, the destroyed ground units reappear as reconstructed after certain time period.

Hi

Playing against the AI - Lost Saratoga and Yorktown - 3 partial squadrons relocated to land base 1/vf-42 , 1/vs-5 and 1/vb-5 they have not reconstituted to full size.

In the reinforcement screen it shows vf- 2 , vs-3 , vb-3 and vt-3 ex-saratoga as reinforcements
and
vf-42 , vs-5 and vt-5 ex-yorktown as disband/withdrawn and vb-5 as reinforcement

why some are returning under reinforcement and the others under disband/... I don't know but they are clearly being reconstructed in this game

They might appear as reinforcements, but if you wait and see.....they'll never ever appear at your base as actual reinforcements.
Not sure why they're listed as 'reinforcements' at all, must be because it was difficult to write a code that prevented it. I assume that every single air group follows similar routines -to a certain point.

So write off all partial sqdn's and amen them [:'(]

PzB,

The Saratoga's airgroup has arrived as reinforcements on time and has been deployed into the Solomons without encountering any problems.
Yorktown's airgroup is due to arrive in 3 days time listed as withdrawn/.... at Brisbane ( which seems odd ) .

Have you , as you mentioned in your post lost CV's and not recieved the airgroup as reinforcements?

Must say I got a little unsure now, I thought I had seen those lost sqd's listed as reinforcements but never actually arriving.
When I check out my reinforcement list now, I see them listed with the number of ac they got when their landing strips sank [:'(]
I will wait and see what becomes of them, if they do return - you simply have to merge them with the partial groups.

Ive never had them back, and they only appear for the allies in the list, not the japanese. You might notice that sometimes they appear as disbanded/withdrawn and sometimes as reinforcement, I wonder if you get one back and not the other?

Hi,

Just got the second CV's airgroup back at Brisbane and they were listed as withdrawn/disbanded
Ive not lost many CV's so this is the first time I've noticed what happens to CAG's after the carriers been sunk.

I've noticed that float planes from sunk BB's and CA's come back as reinforcements.

Cheers

Hi all,

So, essentially, we don't yet have full and 100% accurate answer regarding this...

Do both Allied and Japanese air groups reappear later (i.e. they come as replacements/reinforcements after the carriers they have been on are sunk)?

The Japs definetely dont get them back, and I was under the understanding (unconfirmd) that the allies get them in the list, but actually dont see them come back in real life.
