Tips for Beginners?

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

Tips for Beginners?

Post by kvnrthr »

I've just started playing this game and it's pretty fun. I went through the tutorial which does a good job of telling me what I can do and how to do it, but sometimes its unclear what I should do.

I've only dabbled a bit in the 1st Ukrainian Front scenario as the Soviets, on Computer- settings. I finally figured out how to use the combat advisor so I could find good overruns against picket units, but actually killing full German regiments is difficult especially if they dig into a city. I broke through to the encircled Soviets around turn 6 I think, not sure if that is considered fast or slow progress.

Any gameplay tips or good tactics you can use to dislodge/destroy tough units? How much space can I leave between regiments so German units don't just drive behind me and shoot my artillery? And where should I place interdiction for the best effect?
