Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
I have the book. I realised from your first response that it would be difficult to convince you that I am correct. Thus I didnt bother taking photos directly from it and uploading them.Wiedrock wrote: Fri Dec 30, 2022 3:22 pm Yet, I am still not 100% pleased to throw over almost all other sources and see this as the "whole divisions logo".
Anyone who can access the book in a library or can tell me a library in Germany which got this book already?![]()
Looking forward to the mod.
Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
I am just mind blown that this logo hasn't made it into most of the sources/on front of the books about the division. Especially since they were not just any division. The Books I am using were released in 1987 and they quote letters from the 60s. After additionally seeing the video footage of some arbitrary guys also using this logo I am more than convinced.Hardradi wrote: Sat Dec 31, 2022 12:11 am I have the book. Maybe Veterans wanted to stick with the falcon in good remembrance.

What happened to the guy who took the photos? Is that mentioned in the book?
+which logo the 29th used as PzG-Division?

I havent got to the end of the book yet. Aufklärungs-Abteilung 29 has its own symbol, the fox. Its four companies are designated by the lambda symbol each on a different coloured background.Wiedrock wrote: Sat Dec 31, 2022 12:58 amI am just mind blown that this logo hasn't made it into most of the sources/on front of the books about the division. I also have another book Panzerkreig which details Panzerabteilung 129 (same author) where he states its a common misconception that the 29th Motorised Division used the falcon symbol. The X symbol is actually two riding crops.

Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
Hello there , very excited about this mod , i have two questions if i may , 1st) how do we update the mod since we install it ? we just roll over every new version when its available ? and 2nd) Will you add Soviets Gui , icons in the future ? Thanks in advance

Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
1.
I am almost daily working on new Insignias and uploading them/upgrading the posts simultaneously. Making separate releases that add up in the end did not make sence to me.
I decided to do this "WIP" release to get feedback directly and I am not sure when or if there would be a "finished" version anyway.
2.
Yes, you have to download the mod folder again and just roll it over (as you said).reapercorfu wrote: Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:34 pm 1st) how do we update the mod since we install it ? we just roll over every new version when its available ?

I have updated the Problems/Issues-Post. For those willing to contribute some knowledge and/or researching time to this mod.
I am especially wondering about the SS-Corps not using Insignias/Insignias being "lost in history".

Yes the Thread is long. In the first post you can find a content list with links.Hellway wrote: Mon Jan 23, 2023 8:11 am Hello, where is this post please ? I have some Docs, I can maybe help...
I try to avoid using "direct links" to my posts in the comments section since I may change the order of some posts which then would require to update the posts in the comments section as well, which I try to avoid.
Problems/Issues -Post But here the link anyways.

Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
Hello again, I find a lot of things in my Heimdal albums (Barbarossa, dictionary of SS, Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe divisions) but I'm a bit lost between your requests and the denominations (in French). It seems that we are talking about divisions and not corps. This type of info in the picture could help you or did I get the wrong level of unit (the colors codes are in the book too)? (if you are interested, I can look for more). Thank you for your work. Sincerely, Hellway.

This already looks really good. Thanks for that.Hellway wrote: Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:36 pm Hello again, I find a lot of things in my Heimdal albums (Barbarossa, dictionary of SS, Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe divisions)
First of all, I am not sure what you mean with "denominations (in French)". Either you mean the Naming of units or the echelons.Hellway wrote: Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:36 pm[...] the denominations (in French). It seems that we are talking about divisions and not corps.
Since I guess you mean the echelons that's how they are coded with basic army markings + German translation.
Naming - echelon styles:
- XXXXX Army Group - Heeresgruppe
- XXXX Army - Armee
- XXX Corps - Korps
- XX/X Division/Brigade (onmap CU) - Division/Brigade
- III Regiment - Regiment
- II Battalion - Battaillon/Abteilung
- I Company/Battery - Kompanie/Batterie
Unfotunately I dont't see a way to make it much easier to understand. I tried to avoid going the basic 'create list and work through approach' since for me this would erease every sence of education/connection concerning the OOB. Additional Colours and markings are explained in my second Post in this Thread.
In general I have organized the posts with serious content into:
1. Initial OOB+TB (So all units on MAP and in all the TBs (Theater Boxes))
2. AIR work here is paused
3. Reinfocements (So all units that arrive later on MAP or in TBs)
4. Support Units (All units which are SUs and not already posted in the other two sections)
5. Problems/Issues
The last is the only one which you need to care about. That one is divided into (1. (Initial OOB)) and (3. (Reinforcements)). There we are "talking" about Corps and Divisions for the most part (at the moment).
So if you want to help try to find Army Groups, Armies, Corps, Division, Brigade, Regiment, Battalion ... listed in the Problems/Issues post.

Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
Ok, I understand, thanks. My my problem is the translation between the OOb game and my books organisation (400 pages each one). I see the organisation of your post too (maybe the three first symbol here above are inside your list). When I take time, I will search the symbol I can find and the colored code too (because the books are old and in B/W). Maybe you prefer a "in private" communication for this ? Thanks.

Nice, thanks for sharing, I already found 2 missing corps logos there just randomly scrolling through. Awesome blog/homepage with sourcing the information he/they used. Awesome. Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
Hello, I understand well the equivalence between army levels, unfortunately my books mention divisions but not corps or some rare units. The colour code is a small table in the book which normally allows you to paint the logos according to their design as these old books are e, black and white, I will provide it to you (e.g. dotted = red, etc...). Strangely, your missing units exist but are also missing logos in the book. I may be getting the 4 volume Waffen SS dictionary soon, so we'll see. I don't need anything else to look up, thanks. I come from Belgium. I will keep you posted. Good evening and thanks for the updates. (PS : it's not me the sender of the link from last post before...

Re: GE Gui & Sym Mod Depot (continued)
Progress for Ground Units ist mostly paused until the OOB 2.0 is officially released (since there may be several new SUs and renames included).
Until then I will work on Air Units, currently I am working on the Transport Units (KG zbV, TG, KGr zbV, TGr, Transportstaffeln ...Gliders needs to be looked at as well later on).
