[WAD] SUB not launching weapons in Scenario Northern Fury #1

Hi,
i noticed that although the red units are well within range, the sub does not launch any weapon. Have allowed "ïgnore mission when attacking" but even then nothing happens. All other settings are untouched.
The only way i got the sub to launch is by manually pointing it in the right direction so the weapon arc was within limits. But the sub did not do that by itself, it kept pointing toward and intersection of it's path with the target rather than aiming at the target.
I did not add the savegame as it is just 20 minutes from game start.

Without a save to see what your exact settings, its only a guess at whats going on, regardless of how far in the scenario is. There are 1000's of possible combinations of settings between side, unit, and mission ROE/WRA.

One guess is ignore plotted course to attack ROE setting.

it is this scenario.
i think the "ignore plotted course when attacking = NO ' tricked me.
That made the sub keep on course and face away from it's targets thus blocking launch of the weapon.

I loaded the save under the Steam version and it fired a torpedo not long after starting - no changes to anything.

Is it working now?

Hi,
actually it does not.
I observed the sub behavior in the attached file and it seems highly illogical to me.

The targets are well within range and are noisy surface vessels. However, the sub loses their position track and does not fire.
Is it due to the ROE settings for the mission / unit or side?
Or is it caused by something else? I do get this crash alert....

That sub is going awfully fast to be used to detect anything. Anything above I think 15 knots and any towed array gets reeled in and the wash of the hydrophones because too great for good detection. My expertise is not ASW, but have learned lot form this forum.

I remember having the same problem in this mission, but eventually the sub did fire. Did not figure out why.
The targets and the torpedoes have about the same top speed.
Maybe that makes the launch window very small.

so why does the logic set the sub speed so high? And it's course looks random.

So just started it up and the sub rippled off four sets of torps and killed all four ships. Tried it again and it killed three. Not sure what the issue is.

Have you gone through the tutorials at all and checked all the settings in the sub's mission?

sure but "movement random in area" belongs to the patrol pattern, surely not the attack path ??

If the sub moves too fast, probably the launch conditions are never met. But it should not move so fast nor go on a weird attack path. Nor should the targets disappear.
This would imply incorrect behavior on the opposite side as well and then everything becomes random.

Again, check the mission settings and ROE of the mission.

i am trying...

But could you please have a look into attached file and advise what is wrong with the settings of TG BERGEN so that it allows a fly by and does not launch a single missile?
Also i cannot get the before mentioned sub to launch at all, what am i missing?

i mean in a programmers delusion, there are a million errors in code to be made, as long as it carries in the dollars.

The Mission settings have attack speed set to cruise. Set it to creep, and ignore plotted course when attacking to "NO"

With the sub running at cruise speed, there are two real world problems that could be preventing firing. 1) Loss of good fix on the target due to own ship noise, and 2) wire guidance of the torpedo would immediately be broken.

Try those settings and see what happens. Plot a course toward the missile boats. Torpedo launches should occur.

i could not find data that points to a specific max launch speed.
Even though it seems wire-guided it swims quit fast: Maximum speed 50 knots (93 km/h)

My observes:
Note that firing arc is considered against target within 5nm. If target is not in front (=about 135 deg) of sub, target is outside of torpedo tube firing arc and torpedo will not fire.

Also note that when you assign unit to mission, mission logic will automatically calculates target's future position (based on speed and heading) and assigned unit heads this "intercept point" when attaking.

In this case target's high speed (about 30kts) requires greater leads, which result in sub always showing her flankside to the target.

As Dave mentioned above, set "Ignore plotted course when attacking" doctrine to "No" (unit will strictly follow the plotted course instead of heading intercept point) then plot sub's course toward target's direction.

It is useful to Shift+F1 and click target you want to attack. This shortcut open weapon allocation dialog and when weapon cannot fire, dialog tell you why.

It is indeed complex stuff.

I went into the editor and simply moved the sub in front of the surface vessels. Now it did launch, so probably it does work as coded.
