Visibility of intermittent radar?

Post by vonotha »

I wonder whether the range ring (yellow circle) of the sleeping/silent radar in the intermittent mode should be visible?

The ring is present regardless of the state of the radar's working in the intermittent mode (emitting / sleeping).

The state of the radar can be determined from the displayed text information (here: 'Silent'). Range ring is a nice visual help. It is easier to determine radar''s state from a distance.

I'm experimenting the opposite :D
Radar rings are never shown, even if the unit says is emitting!

(only for "custom emissions" units. For those on "always", range is showing ok)

Regardless whether a radar works in continuous or intermittent mode, CMO constantly shows radar's sensor range. It disappears when radar is in the passive mode.

To work in intermittent mode, radar's sensor must be set to Active. Sometimes radar's 'Obey EMCON' directive initially blocks intermittent mode. In such a case, a manual sensors configuration is needed.

Attachead is a basic radar test scenario. Four radars versus four ELINT vehicles at a very short distance and in a flat terrain. A little surprise, one radar remained a mystery to the ELINT team after a pretty long time.

I'm pretty sure this is works as intended. It was debated in the beta and the devs had a very good reason for the ring showing if any intermittent setting was on. IIRC it was that many people would not know they had intermittent radar on with long intermittent pauses. The general consensus was that it was safer to have the radar appear on and have the message display status of the actual emissions. The way I think of it is the rings that I want any form of emission to show the ring. The message shows the actual emission.

Thank you for clarifying this. I was uncertain what is the intended way, this new functionality shoud work. Or look like to be precise.

Another goal of my previous post was exploration of why some radars set to intermittent mode do not show range rinngs.
