Re Routed Units in the Soviet Reserve TB.

How long do they stay routed? Just set them to refit?
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

I think they always become normal the turn they arrive on the main map.

One thing I don't understand: is the chance of supply admin failures related to the admin rating of the HQ's leader to which the unit is currently attached?

Thanks!

From what I understand you have the command chain, if your Corps HQ fails, the ArmyHQ rolls, ...and so on. And ofc. if you command chain is complete you should have higher chance since having a CU attached to a higher HQ (above Corps) erases one possible roll and adds some debuff to the roll chance. Added to this is some distance CU>HQ related modifiers (which are neglectable).
That's why you can have multiple "fails" in one round.
I've created this spreadsheet trying to make sence of the used colourcoding in the "command efficiency tools" but I did not end up with a serious conclusion. Insert your numbers in the yellow fields and you see what chance your rolls have.

For more see the Manual chapter 36.5.1/36.5.2 + 15.5.3. Or have alook at this post which may also be helpful.

Yes, directly related. Actually there are many "phases" during the resupply/replacements phase, as units queue up to get stuff, usually a little at a time (over many phases if at a high priority). During each phase the leader admin values are checked to see if the unit passes or fails. You could fail at the 30% phase, then again at the 50% phase, etc., and it's possible there are multi checks per phase (can't remember now if supplies and replacements use different admin rolls). Anyway, leader admin values up the chain determine if you pass or fail, although they can be modified by various bonuses that are mentioned in the manual re different HQs and whether the HQs are overloaded with too many units.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Thank you to both of you! Very informative answers, I will go back to the manual to read more about HQs being overloaded then!

I have two questions:
1)Am I correct that destroyed soviet units after november 1941 will not appear in the reserve, and you need build them yourself?
2)How to trigger events like "Axis grnd. success in North Africa" and "NW european campaign delayed"? How many troops do I need in TBs? Or maybe it's just a random?

Earlier versions of the game it seemed a lot more frequent, it is random and right now the odds are poor.

Have run up to late 42 with 200-300% in Air and Navy in North Africa without getting one of the air/navy events, so I'd say going much above 100% is pointless under the current rules. Probably better value to put additional manpower in the west to get some victory points. Those seem quiet a bit more frequent.

Question of my own...has something happened to the first winter rules or german supply in recent patches. My regular strategy completely collapsed in the south during first winter in my most recent game. Might have been more blizzard turns than regular, giving the soviets more moral then I usually play with or sending less panzers to the west, but it really felt wrong when the entire southern front was at <1 CV standing about 3 hex from depots, then going to in some cases 20CV as soon as march comes around. It also only applied to the south, since I could continue offensive operations through out winter in the north even gaining ground in several areas.

I would assume it's all about the supplies that were reaching your depots, which could be impacted by more blizzard. Also, how many times you were attacked by the enemy. Even failed attacks can weaken the Germans during the first winter if they are in blizzard and very low on supplies. You can be 3 hexes from a depot, but if there's little freight getting to the depot, it won't matter.

Standing inside the 3-hex range during first winter may actually be a trap option. Because yes, you do not use trucks, you supply units with horses instead. And horses eat. So you pay 2 tons of freight to get 1 ton of supply instead of 1. Which exhausts depot supplies twice as fast.

The north may be fine because some supplies are shipped in, evading most of the rail penalties.

I really hope this isn't how it does work? Because my imaginary supply horses shouldn't magically start eating supplies when I move within 3 hex of a depot (hopefully we feed them even when we aren't using them) but if its how it works it makes kind of sense because north of about the height of Minsk everything was fine allowing me to advance towards Moscow for most of the winter with what I judged was far shakier supply lines (mostly using trucks) while below that line it was a total catastrophy :)

Sure not enough to destroy the campaign but it certainly cost me a victory in 42 (missed the October vp check with two turns :( ).

It does indeed work like that. Hence ideally your depots for winter are placed at 4 hexes away from the frontline.

Okay...I guess it might not be the craziest thing in this game but it is certainly up there (I think the depiction of Italians might be the craziest :D). Check don't be within 3 hex of depots until spring 42 unless you need a refit or the magical supply horses will eat 50% of your supplies :D

Anyone else this feels insane for or is it just me?

in my opinion its okay that they try to represent horse/truck supplies types of delivery
but it is not okay that you can not choose what type to use, for example i would like to use trucks to get freight from a depot that is 2 hexes away, but i cant
so i have to position my troops in some weird places to have non of them within 3 hexes from a depot just to get more freight

A horse needs about 10-15kg food/day. For one Infantry Division that's about 45t/day (https://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/So ... gung-R.htm).
The horse needs food also when idle.
New horses themselves need to be transported as well.
I have no idea wether this consumption is already included in the current divisional supply-consumtion.
I guess transporting the food by train was needed pretty often (at least during winter).

Comparing the 45t/day for one Divisions horses each day to the need of 250k Soldiers encircled in Stalingrad (750t/day) gives a good guess on how much it needed to feed all those horses.

But in general, yes it feels a lot and the 3-Hex rule feels odd, but I have no idea about how the logistical chain atually worked back then to complain about this.

So a follow up on the hungry supply ponies.

How does it work for a unit on the depot? Will a ravenous horde of hungry equines eat all their supplies?

Thanks for the great answers everyone :D it wasn't the answer I was hoping for...but it certainly will change how I play the game :) Guess I will have to up the soviet moral in the next game now that I will get +50% supplies in the south :D
