How to speed up gameplay

Post by DKF12 »

I am interested in any ideas on how to speed up gameplay. I am playing the full campaign for the first time against the AI. As long as it took me to do the Allies Set UP and get to Feb. '42 I am wondering what will come first the campaign end or my final repose. How often should I revisit major ports, typical time for one turn, settings that will help. etc.

Thanks

You only need to post this one time.

A turn may take 30 minutes to 2 hours to set up, depending on your style of play (sloppy vs overanalysed).

I check major ports every turn. What helps me is forming patrolling AMc , AM and ASW TFs FIRST in port hexes. Thus, those TFs have low ID numbers, so when you click on a port hex, they are always first in the queue of TF icons. This really saves time when you look for new TFs in ports. Hope it helps.

AMcs do not need to be in a task force to clear mines at a port.

  • Manage pilot training once a month.
Manage convoys once a week (i.e. set them up, make sure they are still relevant, put damaged ships in a yard, etc.).
    Do two-day turns.
Do the absolute minimum settings for the turn replay.
Usually between big operations I can do a turn in 15 minutes.

I also think that just doing turns, that is practice, will help. You will learn what is important and what can wait, especially for the Allies.

Ships in the Philippines? Important.
Ships in Malaysia and Singapore? Important.
Ships at the West Coast? They can wait.
Checking damaged ships at Pearl Harbor? and elsewhere? Look at your report and see which ones can no longer be repaired under the current repair mode, adjust accordingly.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Can anyone confirm this? I have always formed AMc TFs to keep ports free of enemy mines. Don't have access to the game right now.

You can develop a checklist. Here is my checklist for each turn

1. Click Intel report and check ships sunk and aircraft lost
2. Click Ground airgroups and check for units at 40% training (this are the new groups that enter on map, the game automaitcally sets them to 40% training) -give orders to any new airgroup
3. Check air groups that fly Supply missions (it is easier than sorting by TR and Bombers) – find those groups, check weather for the next turn - if R(ain) or T(hunderstorms) stand down the group to avoid losses from weather
EDIT 12 2020: if the groups are stood down, you will not find it by Supply. You have to remember which groups fly Supply missions unfortunately.
4.Click Ships icon and check for ship damage. Select S to see only subs - return to bases subs with 10 system damage or more
5.Click Operations report and check arriving ships and LCUs - go to those bases and give orders
5b. Go to main map. The land battles are marked with crossed swords - check how your unit are doing
6. Save the turn in the Tracker slot (mostly slot 004) and then copy the save file to Tracker folder and Load the turn into Tracker
7.See Alerts for Ships - find the ships that finished repairs
8.See Alerts for LCUs - see units which reached destination (you can highlight the units in Tracker and CTRL+C them ,and then copy them to a Word document
8b.Check your CV TFs which mostly are at sea and can be easily overlooked.

9.Go to the map and do ships in the bases from left to right (Cape town, Abadan, Bombay, Colombo, Calcutta, chittagong, Port Hedland, Darwin, Perth, Townsville, Sydney, Sale, Pago, PH, Juneau, Seatlle, San Fran, LA, San diego)
