Guadalcanal affecting Australia

Post by Nginear »

In my current game, I'm axis and captured all of the Solomon Islands. At first after capturing in '42, it would give the msg about affecting Australian supply every few turns. It is now end of '44 and the msg rarely happens. Is there a specific reason for this?

I do not have a bomber in the red hex/capitol, do I need one at all for the affect? The supply affect would still happen sometimes without me having a bomber in the red hex, does it still happen if I have the bomber in Rabual or somewhere else?

Lastly, is the affect only to reduce Austrailian mpp? Does this really hamper the Allies that much?

It seems like even when this event does transpire it only effects supply levels in the cities of Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. So, the overall impact on the Allies economically would seem to be minimal.

The effect should only happen if a bomber is in place, and only its absence should prevent it from happening.

However, it has just a 10% chance of happening when the bomber is present, so this may explain why you've only seen it happening occasionally.

@Bill so I could have sworn the affect happened without a bomber in the red hex earlier in the game...and it just now happened in my current game #390277 vs Feinder. Hopefully he is not reading this, but I do not have a bomber in Guad let alone in the red hex and the reduction happened.

Looking at the script again, it will actually fire if any Axis unit is present there.

In order to get better Island fighting, probably need more supply.

Battle of Manila for sure.

I guess I don't quite understand why the event is there at all. The threat of a Japanese airbase on Guadalcanal to commerce shipping was always a bit overblown. The actual threat it posed in the eyes of Admirals King and Nimitz was as a stepping stone for Japan to cover an eventual invasion of the New Hebrides or Fiji or for further isolating Port Moresby on New Guinea. If Japan had ever gotten around to setting up a sizable naval bomber base there, the Allies simply would have routed major convoys sailing to Australia further south to sail between New Caledonia and New Zealand well out of the operational range of the G4M Betty.
