Isolated Air Groups

Post by Mac Linehan »

Gents-

Grand Campaign '41 (no early end); Soviet turn 1.

I have moved as much of the air force to the Reserve TB or changed bases to preserve it. As isolated groups cannot be transferred or disbanded, and most have few aircraft, what courses of action are there?

I am very grateful for your help.

You can manually move them to a different airfield (one in supply). The damaged aircraft won't be able to move, but the ready ones can fly out.

Hi Joel!

Thank You for your answer.

Late last night (prior to reading your response), the very obvious answer- move the group to another airfield- became apparent. What is embarrassing is that I have read the pertinent section of the rules several time.

and:

I really love the depth and detail- sheer immersion; the Commander's Report, once understood (I am slowly getting there) allows access to each level of command and associated units.

I am currently working my way through David Stahel's operational series; "Operation Barbarossa," "Operation Typhoon;" "The Battle for Moscow" is next.

As with the above, Colonel David Glantz's "When Titans Clashed" (2015 revision) emphasizes the sheer wear and tear of the Russian environment (in all it's aspects) on any mechanized unit; and the relentless struggle to logistically support fast moving combat units- all of which limit and degrade combat maneuverability and power.

I mention the above because I feel that WitE2 realistically captures and replicates the above realities through Combat Prep Points, fatigue and, perhaps most importantly, the logistic model.

My sincere respect and appreciation for the effort, attention to detail and quality product the 2by3 Team has put forth and delivered.
