[WAD] Receivers Drag Tankers (Often into Harms Way)

Post by bsq »

When conducting AAR IRL, the receiver generally meets the tanker at a pre-determined altitude on a 'Towline' or AAR area. The receiever drops to the tankers altitude block, joins and refuelling occurs.

In the game, the receiver goes to the tanker (correct), then without fail, it determines where the tanker goes (wrong), overiding the tankers altitude, forcing the tanker to climb to the receivers mission block - very wrong. The tanker, with a formation of chicks, is the mission leader, it determines the where and the how, not the various flights of chicks otherwise it will be 'dragged' all over the sky - this is not how AAR works.

So I set up my carefully crafted set of 'Towline' missions, only to have DCA drag them back (or forwards - very bad) to their CAP. This is not how it works. Tankers are a force mulitplier, a HVAA, they dont ever get dragged into harms way or indeed off the towline if it is a towline mission - sure in ferries or long transits it is permissible for the Tanker to drag the receiver, but the tankers mission always has primacy.

Can't find anyway to correct this errant behaviour within the dialogs or settings, so must assume that this behaviour is some how hard coded.

Uncheck "Taker follows receivers flightplan (enroute refueling)". On the Suppot mission page for your tankers, open the Tanker Planner by clicking "Configure".

Thanks. Not sure why this would be checked as a default behaviour, IRL its anything but.
