[Q] Generating Flight plan for mission

Post by Wargamer77 »

Learning CMO but is the new flight plan for missions working properly?

When I generate a flight plan for a mission prior to take off, it shows the AI generated plan well enough but then when I add waypoints to the plan (for terrain mask etc), the whole plan path turns red on screen (which seems a warning something isn’t right). When planes take off, they seem to discard my plan and and follow a newly generate plan.

Can someone point me to the correct path if this is not a bug?

The flight path turns red to indicate that the aircraft cannot carry out the flightplan as currently designed. Sometimes I have found it difficult to track down the exact problem. In one case I was able to eliminate the red path by changing the altitude set at an egress turning point, which suggested that I was forcing the aircraft to change altitude faster they were capable of. I came across one forum post which appeared to have a CMO pop-up error window showing the problem that led to the red path, but I haven't been able to reproduce it. If you try to run a mission with a red path, it will probably ignore the flightplan and generate a new one.

I don't believe that the red flight path is an error at all. I believe that it turns red to let you know which path you are editing.

With the game set to reveal ALL flight paths, it is often difficult to know for sure which one is being changed. That's why it turns red. After adding (or subtracting waypoints), changing altitudes at various stages, and speeds, and plotting your ingress and egress, you are ready for the final step---time. You can start with the take off time of your lead unit, and that will yield your Target Time. If you want other strikes to also hit at that same time, then do everything that you did before, but instead of filling in the Take Off Time, assign it to have the same Target Time as the first. Do this for all of the strikes.

When you are finished, all of the flights, coming from bases everywhere (if called upon) will take off when they are supposed to, and they will all arrive at the same time.

Now press the start button, sit back, and watch your plan as it comes together.

IF your strike was altered too much, the program might give you an error message, but it usually doesn't. Instead, the planes just simply don't take off, and it's back to the drawing board.

The two causes to keep a flight from taking off are: Flight SIZE isn't compatible with what was prescribed. (This is easily fixed.) The second cause is FUEL. The program calculates what is needed, and at what point it is told to seek to be re-fueled, and if that isn't possible, the flight simply won't take off. Then. it becomes a question of backtracking to find out why. But, it's actually fun when you get it to work just right.

When I am editing a flight plan, the path I am editing is normally just a slightly brighter white than the other paths. The only time I get a red path is when something is wrong with the plan. In one case the path turned red at the same time that the "Remining Fuel" column in the Editor started showing negative values at the last waypoints. Maybe there is a setting buried somewhere that changes the flightplan colors shown on the map.

if you get a red path, you should check the waypoint you set whether it's parameters suitable for your whole flight plan.
for example,if i inserted a turning waypoint after Hold End,it should be Turning point(Ingress),not Turning point,or the path would probably be red.
another example,if i inserted one or more Refuel point,Tankers(AAR) should be checked whether it's set correct,or the path would be red too.
that's the situations i've encounterred.hope it'll help.
