Need some advice

Post by Skuderian »

After playing the GC for 11 Turns I have a lot of questions and need some advice.

Gameplay questions
1) Can (or should) I do anything against partisans?
2) I use only AI Depot Management. Sometimes in the enemy phase one of my newly built ones is captured. Is this a problem?
3) How do I seize fortified cities with minimal losses? In Odessa I can reduce the level of enemy entrenchment every turn by one. But I am loosing 4000 and they are only loosing 500. In addition it counts as a loss.
4) What is the best structure for a Corps? Most of my corps have 4 divisions, this means 8 out of 9. Or is it better to have 3 divisions and 3 regiments?
5) Apart from covering more space, is there any advantage of splitting a unit? Due to the ZOC system I really prefer to have divisions instead of regiments?
6) Am I playing wrong as I really have a problem with the speed of my infantry? My armoured spearheads always have to wait a lot until the infantry closes by.

Strategic questions
1) Is it possible to capture Moscow in 1941? If yes, how?
2) How many divisions does it need to take Leningrad by September/October?
3) Does it make sense to take Krasnodar/Maikap in Sep/Oct 41? I have the ability, but defending will be more difficult in the winter.

To give an overview, about my situation. I reached the hex southwest of Leningrad, encircled Rzhev and have 8 hexes to Moscow. In the south I am next to Kursk and Kharkov and will reach Stalinov and Rostov in 3 turns. The ratio of losses is 1:6 for soldiers, 1:10 for guns and 1:15 for tanks. In field I have now more tanks than him (3400 german vs 2900 soviet tanks).
gez.

Hey Skuderian, i'll have a go at answering some of the questions but i'm sure others can fill in the gaps or may have a different view.

1) Just make sure in the Soviet Garrison TB you have CV in excess of the requirement. If TB management is off then nothing to worry about but if its on (advised), you need to manually move units to the TB.

2) I would advise not using AI deposit management over time. In any event i dont think it's much of an issue other than wasted AP and some trucks (i believe a small % are lost rather than returned to the pool)

3) You can't reduce it without attacking and if you're attacking, you want to reduce it to zero and win rather than failing the attack and only reducing the levels a bit. You need overwhelming forces against Fortifications and ideally try isolating the hex first. For Odesa you would need naval patrols plus a strong attacking force. Make sure to attach pioneers to units attacking and add heavy artillery to corps HQ as both those help reduce fort levels in combat.

4) Against a human player, regimenting on the frontline beyond turn 2-3 is very risky and not advised. You can do what you want in terms of sub units but just avoid going over any command point caps at any level of the command hierarchy

5) keep divisions whole generally. you can regiment behind the frontline to reduce zoc of sneaky cav/mech/tank trying to suicide behind the lines.

6) to be expected. ideally you want your armoured to flip hexes the turn before so your infantry get admin movement bonus. they move a lot faster on hexes you control rather than ones you dont or just flipped this turn.

1) Yes but not against a Soviet that knows what they're doing imo. You'll need to keep PGZ2 and PGZ3 hole and even strip some of AGN for a push on centre. you need your FBDs focused on centre as well.

2) Depends on the player but if a soviet wants to heavily defend it, it can be a slow slog but still achievable. If leningrad is a goal against a human player i'd advice stripping some of AGC to send north. (make sure to protect your flanks so suicide soviet units don't cut your double rails through pskov).

3) No i don't think it is. Even at Rostov supply can be a challenge during 41 winter. You're doing very well if those 2 cities are on the table in 41!
