Some suggestions
I think it should be an important page but it's hardly useful in current state due to the amount of unnecessary details which clutter the page and prevent any analysis.

Few suggestions to improve:
- Remove the hundred of lines listing all units variations --> replace them by "Model type" total number (see below attached rough mockup)
- (bonus): add a column "your regime" next to those numbers so the players can quickly compare military forces and situation ;
- (bonus): use data colors to help analysis data. Red if its lower/bad ; green if it's higher/better for exemple

The "before" image in your suggestion is outdated - this report actually already got significantly improved in a beta patch recently. The current iteration starts by breaking down the opponent's total quantity of equipment by general category, and then, each in descending order of quantity, breaks down the models in each category and lists the amount of formations.

Breaking down the total amount of equipment by model type instead of the rather vague general type and having a direct comparison to your own regime's numbers isn't a bad suggestion, but since this report was already overhauled, the tech and economy details reports need improvement more urgently.

The techs in the tech report are sorted in a very disorganized and unhelpful fashion, and all three reports (including the military one) would be a lot more useful if they showed how much each number changed compared to last turn.
