Suggestion - Diplomacy

Post by EpicD4ve »

I'm sure these things are already on peoples radar, but diplomacy does feel a little hollow at the moment.

I really like the randomness of first contact between empires - sometimes it goes well and can imediately lead to agreements, but other times it goes badly. I don't know if it just hasn't happened to me, so it may already be in the game, but it would be cool if first contact could go so badly that it immediately leads to war.

There doesn't seem to be any real casus belli options at the moment and can be helped by adding a few extra options. You either start wars or don't at the moment with little intergalactic consequences other than whether a defense treaty will fire or not.

Being able to refuse an empires access to territory would be helpful here. A further option then can be whether your empire (or the ai's) adhere to this request or ignores it. This could naturally lead to a cause for war. Giving the option to demand a colony or mining station/base would also be really helpful and create reasons/causes to go to war or avoid it.

I dont think the general overall reputation rating is useful at the moment, or seems to make any impact on the wider game(?). Being able to form either through tech or an event - an intergalactic UN would be awesome and help here and ties into the lore really well. After all - the intergalactic community needs to band together to overcome endgame threats. Votes could also be held on whether sanctions should be imposed on a agreesive empires (ban on trading commodities?), or a casus belli given to attempt to liberate conqured territoy, or even attempt to cut down to size aggressive empires.

Going futher though - certain techs could be banned by the intergalactic UN - and then empires could choose whether to adhere to the ban or not. Max size of overall navy strength could also another idea of an inter-galactic vote.

Just some quick thoughts, and hopefully encouragement! I have found the switch from DWU to DW2 quite hard, but I am now really enjoying DW2 and want to see it reach it's awesome potentional.

Also - cheeky question - any eta on the dlc or hint at the two new races? (please one of them be Sulken!!)
