What a Bore.

Post by Mike Donner »

There is nothing more boring than the lazy reliance on a cheating ai/game to create a "challenge".

The soviet army has 4.6 million casualties, including 70k guns and 22k tanks, as of March 1st 42. 1.6 million of which has been since Dec 1st. Yet the attacks continue relentlessly across the whole front, THE WHOLE FRONT. And since october EVERY TURN has either been heavy rain or blizzard, with the exception of maybe one week in Oct and one week in November. Since Dec 1 there has been blizzard conditions across the whole front for every turn. I even witnessed a 'break in the weather' for one week only to have my aircraft grounded because on my side of the front it was still snowing. WEAK. And any panzer division that moves or attacks instantly loses all its tanks to disability after the one turn of leaving a city, fort level having zero to minimal effect.
I get the feeling the game is doing whatever it can to get some desired result that is supposed to make me feel like the game is challenging, or to align with some similar historic result. I took every precaution to prepare for the Soviet winter offensive and have continued to hold my line, but the game decides it wants to have that breakthrough. It's obvious the game is taking every cheating advantage it can by changing the weather and providing an unlimited stream of fresh units capable of attack. This is not fun. Almost every fresh unit, or refitted unit, thrown back on the line is chewed up in two turns. ACROSS THE WHOLE FRONT. I have the game difficulty set to normal even, yet the cheating is unbearable.
If I want some false sense of a challenge by the AI then let me set it to hard, and bring the lazy cheats on. Again, this is not fun OR a challenge. There would literally be 100+ feet of snow on the ground with the way the weather has been programmed.
I expect this will continue until the summer allowing me zero time to rest and refit. I don't feel like continuing because again, this just isn't fun.

Playing the AI is a "bore". Play a real person. Feel the difference.

While I understand your sentiments about playing against the AI and I can sympathise with you about its game play.
The first winter penalties is always the hardest, come March it gets better and you can begin to build your army back up, when the mud hits later the AI will settle down and you can then steam roll it in the summer of 1942.

I play against the AI at normal level currently, still have lot to learn, as of yet I have not played a P v P game for a variety reasons, so to make the game a challenge I am playing the different campaigns my current one is StB, I will cycle through the campaigns then when I am back to 41 I will start to think about giving the AI a higher difficulty level.

If your not enjoying playing against the AI as suggested by HLYA play a P v P game if you feel confident enough, its a great community I am certain you will easily find a opponent, however the First winter penalties will still apply whether against the AI or a human player.

Playing a game about Easter Front, which is trying to recreate the struggles which both sides had (I don't say it's perfect), I encourage you to learn something about its historical background, numbers and the moves the "General AI" has been done 82 years ago.

My first winter was a bore and it felt that it would never end. Welcome to General Winter.

Once you have mastered the game mechanics it's actually very easy to deal with. I love this game!

Persevere and play into '42 (I confess that I didn't against the AI), else go back to some of the smaller scenarios and master the interface/game mechanics. I recommend that you thoroughly understand assault HQs and SUs as Axis.

PvP is recommended, especially if you can find an opponent with similar experience

I appreciate the encouragement to continue, and hearing that maybe the end of this frustration is at hand.

Thanks.
