What are the additions, changes etc. Tried looking in store but nothing comes up and there's nothing in the forum that I can find.

Hopefully when we get some working links to the update the changes will become clear. It seems to be a fairly big upgrade to the previous official release, but I haven't heard or seen anything about it being much different than the most recent betas.

My problem is I don't have the game, my machine's not capable of running it at full capacity so don't have clue about any betas. I have tried briefly through Steam but it would only run on the small galaxy size but the game did not wow me so returned it. A decent upgrade with more playable races etc might entice me to buy despite only have working. This is what I was trying to find out.

This is mostly an update to improve already present features and systems, and while it adds a lot to the game, not much of it is actually new "content" (barring some cool things like leadership changes and race differentiation).

Per the recent stream, the first expansion DLC will be coming very soon (the implication is later this month), which will feature two new playable races. The expansion after that will also feature two new playable races, and is slated for sometime later this year. The first massive expansion with a deep level of new content and systems was also mentioned, and is expected to be out very late this year.

So, this update itself may not be the content trigger you're looking for, but stay tuned for what should be an imminent DLC with more races coming very soon.

Also, for the record, I'm playing on a system that also can't really handle anything more than 700-ish stars. But despite that limitation, I am very pleased with the game and don't find the experience lacking at all. Granted, I don't know what I'm missing by playing smaller systems, but the experience I do have is wonderful.

The change list links in the announcement should be working fine now, apologies that they were not earlier. If you download and install the update, there's also the change list included there:
