Troops

Post by Schatten »

here especially Robot Troops

Basically they total usless. The basic Infantery of every single Race except mayby Teekans is much stronger as them.
That bit less space usage in Transports dont matter, you have anyway more as enough space and the one extra Robot Unit that you can pack in every 5 Troops dont matter since its so much weaker.

What would be a Bonus?
Not affected by enviroment...but in the end it still dont matters since they so much weaker.
So at last you can use them as Teekan? Not at all since Genetic Replication beats everything as you can always clone the strongest possible Infantry from all the Races and Units in your Empire.

Well so at last as Garrison for new conqered Planets since otherwise you have wait long time till the population is assimilated enough? Nope since for *reasons* you also cannot build Robot Troops on newly conquered Planets until the population is assimilated enough and than again it makes zero sense as you can recruit normal Infantry that is again stronger or use cloning if you choose so

Basically they can be removed from game and nobody would notice. So remove them or give them any purpose...mayby attached as subunit to Administration Centers (like first Level Center comes with 5 Robot Units, second with 10 etc) that fight Crime and Corruption and has also has some fight capability as support unit.

I think Robotic Casualties did not count for War Weariness?
The Upkeep might be cheaper.
And they build at a fixed rate, independent of local Assimilation or Happiness.

As said actually not. They build first if assimilation/happiness allows also to recruit normal Infantery. You can build Robotic Troop Foundry and start build them but they stay at 0%

War Weariness may be so but thats so minor part compared to ships and bases that it dont really counts.

When you say weaker there are a few things you are missing, this is numbers... the strength don't account for numbers. This means that two units that are half as strong requires twice the hits to destroy. So two units with half strength is allot stronger than one unit with the same total strength.

There also is an outnumbering bonus on top of this as well... this is why you should never underestimate the power of infantry or robots in a fight.

Robots are perhaps not super effective for assault due to size but really good as colony defence due to being so cheap and easy to build. If you have the space in your invasion fleet they are still effective for applying cheap numbers to a fight.

Okay, I checked some figures. Robotic Troops have:
Size 4000. Normal is 5000
Maintenace 100. Normal is 200.
Recruitment of 1250. Normal is 2000
Evasion Values are standardized across all infantry.

That leaves:
75 Defense
50 Attack
Those value are pathetic - even the Teekans beat that, at 98/65.

Again, you fail to incorporate numbers... the strength is just how much damage they will do. Two units take double the damage to destroy. Robotic troops is only bad when you consider using them for attack as they take up allot of space for their attack values. But if you only look at pure strength values to cost ratio they are very strong...

Cannon fodder to get you bonuses for Armor units.

For the Upkeep, you have to consider that it costs you 1000 Upkeep just to have the Robotics Plant to make them. So unless you were planning to build at least 10+ Defense Infantry, basic infantry is actually cheaper.

I think this sums it up succinctly. I want to back it up, but I haven't tried it yet.

Remember that you should have troop transports to shuttle your troops, not in a fleet. One robotics plant can make 'em for numerous colonies.

Do free agent, automatic troop transports automatically distribute different troop types across colonies? To match the army template ratios?

I *think* they try to match the template ratios, but all I can say for sure is that they do automatically distribute different troop types across colonies. I expect that a limiting factor is when a colony reaches sufficient strength with what they have already garrisoned, so it certainly is not flawless if that is happening.

I am not sure. I would have to test it.

I only build those in a couple of places... why would you build them everywhere?!?

Still, they make no sense.
If Invasion its underway its anyway too late to recruit Troops in sufficient numbers (they dont go build any faster as normal Infantry recruited) even if you happen to have the plant already.
For every Robot you can recruit normal Infantry as Garrison in same time and amount, that is anyway stronger.

For all other aspects, even with distributing troops across your empire...Genetic Replication can do the same with much stronger Troops. And overtime even more so as it always clones the strongest one, including combat experience.

Robots go better with Synthetics but than again costs go also up and they still worser as Clones. For less size in Transports...well as said Transport is absolutly no Problem so that is not really a + especially since those extra Troops also cost extra.

I just have some troop ships on automation and the rest I can control by garrison and ungarrison troops at planets and they will eventually shift the troops around in a decent way.

When I'm about to gear up for war often just put them on "manual" or integrate them into invasions fleets so they don't interfere with my invasions fleets loading troops. I then can just put them back into automation again.

How much time do you really need?!?

During wartime and if you need the troops like yesterday then sure, yes... I would agree that recruiting infantry is better. But you will not be at war all the time and you will have plenty of time to recruit way more troops than you ever need over time.

This is just a matter of planning.

Once I have robotic troops I mainly produce robotic troops for defence and load all infantry into my invasion fleets. I then just allow my automated transport to redistribute the robotic troops around the empire as they come online.

Whenever I produce infantry I make sure they get added to the invasion forces.

I only use robots for invasions if I think I need the extra bodies, but for defence they work just fine and is much cheaper than infantry. I can just reinforce some planets with my invasion forces if I need extra defence there.

If I don't build them, I won't get robot troops on that planet.
Unless there is a system to export troops from the one planet that holds them?

Automated troop transports will redistribute them... just make sure you load up most of the infantry on your invasion fleets or remove them if you have too many of them. Your automated troop transports will do the rest.

Even if we agree with all that it remains a fact that robots the weakest infantry by huge amount.

Less size dont matter much, as standart you can load 5 normal Infantry and 6 robot infantry....they so much weaker that will go killed in combat against the 5.

Build Speed and conditions 100% same as for normal infantry and clones. So who in the world would not use clones that superior in every aspect, even over synthetics that stronger as robots but not so much and have same upkeep as normal infantry.

right now: clones>>normal infantry>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>robots
