Creating a continuous short war in Iran

Post by bladesinger79 »

Today, I felt creative as many of us gamers do. I was dreaming up some scenario ideas for myself on an ongoing scenario where it goes on until the war is over compared to a series of scenarios.

What if I could create a war in Iran (say, 2021) where the poodoo hits the fan and it goes on for seven days instead of running seven scenarios? The idea I had in mind is fully populate all the air and naval Iranian bases and units along with the surrounding nations of Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, SA, Qatar, UAE, Oman, and Pakistan. The Iranians pissed the world off by launching their one and only nuke at someone and the world retaliated. Day one is when NATO (US, UK, GR, FR, TU) enters the AO and goes ape-sheit while Iran defends. This is just one scenario that goes on until the end of seven days when the defenders are wiped out if not sooner. Leave out the ground forces. The NATO player can conduct his mission however way he wants to. The AI just retaliates if possible.

Why do this? I was thinking on players who just likes to sit and play on their own for God-Knows-How-Long and is not restricted on facing the same enemies no matter how many times they were destroyed in the previous six scenarios.

Good idea for a LOOOOONG term scenario? Or bad idea because it's too massive?

A simulated scenario (a war lasting several days) was made with many interesting features. It is made by one of the best designers in my opinion, Rory Noonan. I have only found the beta for download but it gives you an idea of the work involved.

My approach to a multi-day operation would be:
Change the typical scoring system to an attrition/war support system much like the one Rory implements.
Give the player freedom to choose objectives.
Allow the player to advance in time beyond the double flame simulation (this makes it not so tedious, since in multi-day operations there are moments of low intensity) being able to interrupt this go ahead in time by changes in status/ enemy attacks etc.

And undoubtedly the most difficult of all is to provide the computer side with an "AI" so that it can counter enemy attacks, choose its own attacks and its own responses to the situation. If this is already difficult in closed scenarios, I don't want to imagine in an open scenario like this one.

I am getting good vibes on this. Sensing the Creation Matrix in me building up. But if it's beyond me, I will withdraw. I do have plenty of good folks here for help though.

Thanks.
