Transport contracts should transport both ways

Transport contract is a shipping line between two ports. But for some reason they will only transport goods one way.
Wouldnt it make more sense if the ships would also transport goods back on the way back?

They can, but it's turned off by default. Go to your SHQ's Unit Admin page, and you can turn it back on. Same thing applies for air bridges, BTW.
