Seems we've lost another one

Post by Xargun »

As some of you know I was playing against Nomad and we were both doing AARs - which we both grew tired of doing so we stopped. But I have not heard from Nomad since March 11th, and after 10 days or so of waiting I did what little research I could and found an obituary for someone with the same name who lives approximately where Nomad lived stating he passed on March 14th.

It has taken me a while to wrestle with this and to decide whether or not to post anything as Nomad was a fairly private person. But I know he had friends on here and at least one other opponent. So I hope someone can prove me wrong, but it seems Nomad has passed on. I only knew him for 18 months or so, but remember his name from my early days on the forums and he loved WitP - even if he hated it sometimes too (like we all do). I just wanted to post something to let others know what I have found out and hope we can all take a moment to remember him.

May he rest in peace...

If true this is sad news indeed. His profile says last active March 13. I always appreciated his posts and he was always very helpful. He was a great contributor and seemed a very respectful and nice guy. He will be greatly missed here if this is true...

I am very sad to say I may have to corroborate what Xargun is saying. I know his real name, age and city he lives in. I too located an obituary that aligns exactly with his information. Again, this is not absolute but all the signs are pointing to this being true.

This makes me very sad. Nomad was a cherished member of my WITP Discord server and he helped me and many other new players immensely, giving great advice and teaching us about game mechanics.

I will still hold out a glimmer of hope that this isn’t true, but I fear the reality is that Nomad may have passed away. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and his contributions to this community will never be forgotten.

This is sad indeed.

May Nomad RIP and his family be comforted during this time of sadness and sorrow.

I'm so sorry to hear. He was very helpful to a lot of people here, myself included.

it's sad too, just a gentle reminder to all of us that our time here is limited and should be spent on positive things.

I have no idea how old he was but i'm getting sick and tired of hearing about all these deaths of people in their 50s and 60s and low 70's. It doesn't seem right. Is anybody else experiencing that with friends and family?

I do believe that at one time he mentioned that he was 75.

As far as what else you said, it should not be mentioned here but pm me if you want.

Well, I hope this is not true but with every passing day
it becomes more likely that Nomad will not return or
may not return to the forum anytime soon or ever.

That is too bad…...I still hold out some hope....but it is fading.
If true….He will be missed on the forum.

His last Post was on March 12:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6#p5083516
No sign of any trouble there. None that I see anywhere else.

His member profile says he is or was 77 years old.

As for me….I’ll not say goodbye…….I’ll just say until we meet again.

I'm Nomads other opponent we were into our second game. And yes, I have not heard from him since the 13th of march. which is very unusual and very unlike him I did fear the worst he was always very upfront and a great communicator he was also a great mentor
always great and generous with his advice it is very sad news and has hit me quite hard.

Young or old it hurts just the same.

I was a member AGEOD, and we lost one of our volunteers age 30, Heinrich Doerle, our German Ambassador (representative to the German player community) to an asthma attack. Given my role at AGEOD, I was tasked with writing his memorial for his 6 year old daughter, Regina. I drew upon quotes of his from our private forums that one day when she was older and could read English, she might known her father as just guy as his friends had known him. One the hardest tasks I have ever done.

Age doesn't matter. It hurts to lose people who are dear.

Condolences to those who knew Nomad.

I am very, very sorry to hear this. I was an avid follower of his AARs and tried to contribute the odd idea now and then. My sincere condolences to his family.

Very very sorry for Nomad.

In these years i have seen many friends pass away, some for accidents, others for diseases,
few luckily for a personal desperate decision and always is the same story.

Nomad really, REALLY helped when I was learning how to work the Editor and provided all sorts of insight to my Modding and Game work. I will miss him. He was very respectful and pleasant at all times.
