Only finding water and oil deposits

Post by Solaristics »

I’m at about turn 25 and pretty much every turn I’m discovering a new resource deposit, but without exception they are either water or oil. I was wondering if it was just a run of bad dice rolls (they are both worthless for trade) but I’m starting to think these are the only resources available on this planet. Has anyone else noticed this? I do have one metal resource, which I had at start, and I have one ruins hex, but that’s it for the other resources.

Some planets types tend towards not having a dense planet, which results in little to no metal deposits.

And the longer a planet is colonised the less metal you'll find too. In cases like these, you should aim for Metal Soil Filtration tech as soon as you can, but be aware it's expensive to get going and you'll need plenty of Power, Machines and HiTech.

I couldn't see a density number anywhere but I saw that "heavy elements = 80%".

Yes, that heavy elements = 80% means that metals and rare metal deposits will be relatively rare, especially if there was additional mining during the colonization history.

So you're on a somewhat metal poor planet.

My advice is to make the most of what you have, try to conserve, try to find and secure any additional deposits or ruins available to you. This will probably be a long game. As KingHalford said, your best long term play is getting metal soil filtration tech. Once you have that, you'll be good, but it will be challenging to get there.

Where do you find the heavy metal percentage? [Found it: 119% (thanks Xxzard)]

I have gone 47 rounds without finding a metal mine. My planet was colonized for 1327 years with a mention of miners flocking to the planet during that time period.

As a result, I have been developing the recycling industry quite a bit. I can't tell if it's my imagination or not, but it seems recycling is more productive than in my previous games. Is it possible Vic has designed the game such that if more metal was mined during the colonial period, then there's likely more metal in the ruins?

Where to find "heavy elements" percentage:

Reports tab > Help section > Planet statistics overview about halfway down the page.

The planet statistics overview also shows the modifiers for solar panels, deepcore gas, and methane synthesis, as well as planet atmosphere composition, rainfall, etc. in case you need to review that. It's a useful page, I like to check it on round 1 to get a more complete feel for the planet I'm playing on.

Got it. 119%. Thx. I looked that page, but my eyes must have scanned right over it.

Ironically... on round 48 I found a metal deposit(!) - the universe works in strange ways sometimes.

Something strange happened to me today too. I loaded up the game this morning and I noticed a new metal and a new rare deposit near each other! Honestly, I wonder if it is a bug as I don't know how I could have missed them as they are right near my starting city and I'm constantly looking at that area. I also checked the strategic map several times and not seen them before. Also also, I definitely didn't get a vid message notifying me of them being discovered as I remember every one of those - bloody water and oil only!

I wonder if something changed due to one of the recent betas.
