Yeah I actually spied that on Lothos' map. Very few of the ones I bring up on Google for that time period include the African coast...

Ha I was just picking on you. Funny thing, many many years ago back in junior high, I got a Times of London Atlas from my uncle who happened to be a history and geography professor. It was phenomenally detailed.
I used to pour through that atlas looking for weird enclaves and other odd political borders.
Found Ifni back then amongst other little know treasures in that tome.

Oh, I most definitely will be in for the long haul until the bloody thing is finally done. Look for Algeria & Tunisia by the end of the weekend. Libya and Egypt will be pieces of cake...
Then, the Balkans, which won't be quite so tasty...

Algeria/Tunisia:

Split into two climate zones, same with Morocco retroactively.
I about drove myself insane trying to get Oran properly located and oriented. Eventually I compromised on the rotation to avoid a huge amount of remedial work on both Morocco and Spain, plus I couldn't draw the lake there correctly using any other orientation (while ensuring movement is possible around the thing). It is one hex too close to Spain but I can live with that (and likely tweak the Spanish coast there at some point-I have a list of little things to fix when the main map is finally done.
I decided on two northern roads given the otherwise-gnarly terrain up there.
Libya and Egypt will be done lickety-split.

Man that looks great. The Saharan Atlas you got dead on.
Can see the approaches to Kasserine. Very well done.

Re: Map of Europe 20kms/hex .....Pre release download.....
The WitW map has too many mountains in there. Turns out that the Kasserine area consists of scattered hillocks/mesas, but with flat terrain in between. Makes holding those hillocks even more crucial.
Libya & Egypt:

Went very straightforward. The Nile will be its own weather zone, but I'll make sure to link it with the adjacent zones, but it should serve as a refuge from sandstorms. I was guessing as to where the sand sea began, may move it in closer. I'm not sure that southern road in Cyrenaica existed back then-but note there is only one town there, making supply tricky.
As you suggested awhile back OCB, I'll use Greece as a tutorial for mapmaking, so off to finish that, posting daily progress in a separate thread.

Beautiful. Man Sinai looks like...Sinai
That road transiting through Msus in Cyrenica was a track...but a well traveled one. It wasn't paved of course, and I would keep it as an unpaved road. Its was heavily used by both sides during the war.

Re: Map of Europe 20kms/hex .....Pre release download.....
Just found this.
The maps look totally awesome!
I also very much like your idea of maneuver warfare. Encircling forces aint easy to achieve in this game. Faster units = more fun (but also greater risk!).
btw that one thing north of Hamburg. Is it a city? I mean Itzehoe.

Just a Settlement. Read my how-to thread for my rationales for city/town density: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9&t=393937
Re: Map of Europe 20kms/hex .....Pre release download.....
This will be the best mod for this game!
Re: Map of Europe 20kms/hex .....Pre release download.....
Man this is crazy work. keep it up i want to play test it and give feedback. the map however needs no feedback, its perfect. well done on the map.

Just wait about another 3-4 months and you'll get your chance. Russia will likely take a full month at least.
Yugo's rivers, borders, and towns all in place now (damn but the Danube has an absolutely huge drainage basin), working on the terrain now.
I had been having Google Maps periodically lock up on me for some odd reason, often forcing me to close my browser (Firefox). I then checked the memory usage, and discovered that the durned thing has a memory leak! I can only keep the tab open for 15 minutes or so at a time, else the ram will all be eaten up, increasing by 2 gigs every 5 minutes or so-it already caused a reboot which corrupted a save. That nobody at Google has ever noticed this or been sent a bug report about it is just astounding to me. May actually be on Firefox's end-a search reveals that it is a side effect on their browser from how it handles Google's data.
