[1.20r]Inexplicable Respiratory Hazard

Post by zgrssd »

I am getting a inexplicably high Respiratory of "4 Insidious. Instant death without Envirosuit."
On planets where I would expect 1 or maybe 2, because there is a solid 14% O2 at near earth pressure.

Its the SO2 in the atmosphere that causes the high hazard level

That still sounds like a 1-2 Hazard, not 4.

Or will you instantly disolve on skin contact with the Air?

The amount of SO2 may seem tiny at first glance, but even at ~5ppm, that's enough to be considered dangerous. Breathing would be difficult, with severe eye and skin irritation (this is probably your hazard 1-2). ~20ppm is where death is likely if exposure is extensive (hours). Your respiratory system would not have a good time. There are many occasions of people travelling up volcanoes and then die from SO2 poisoning from being exposed to similar levels for a shortish period of time. >100ppm is where death is certain if exposed for longer than a few minutes.

Your planet has~400 ppm. You'd be lucky if you survived longer than a minute. Definitely deserves the max hazard rating possible for humans. An envirosuit would be 100% necessary for all actions whilst exposed to the atmosphere.
