Unable to play new DLC!?

Post by Uncle Lumpy »

Greetings, I decided to pick up the new DLC yesterday. I installed it and went to play, and I do not have either of the two new races available. In the C\Programsx86\Matrix Games\Data\ship hull model data\ship folder both races have their respective folders listed. Each folder has files of what I'm guessing are ship sets. After looking at other folders, I found they were both included along with the original six races.

I have uninstalled the game completely. Then re-installed and updated to 1.1.2.4. Then re-installed the DLC 1.1.2.4. They still do not show up in either "Your Race" screen nor in the "Other Races" screen.

I decided to just play the game as is anyway. After going through all the set-up screens and hitting Play, the game crashed in about ten seconds.

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're having these issues.

Could you please check the following for us and report back here?

What were the exact file names of the installers you used to reinstall and update the game and install the DLC?

Regards,

Could you also please share your sessionlog.txt file from the /data/logs sub-folder of your installation?

Hi Eric, I would have included the Session log in the original post, I received message that that file wasn't valid and was allowed to attach it!?! Today, I can.

Just for laughs, I uninstalled DW2 again. Then I installed 1.0.6.4.. The game started.
I then installed 1.1.0.9. The game started.
I then installed 1.1.2.4. The game started.
Finally, I installed the DLC 1.1.2.4. In the Start A New Game setup there still only the six original races, and when I hit Start Game, it crashed about fifteen seconds later.

Thanks, we are trying to reproduce this here, it's definitely some kind of installation problem.

In the meantime, if you reinstall and just activate the DLC from the DistantWorlds2-MultiUpdateComp-v1.1.2.4 without using the DistantWorlds2-Factions-IkkuroAndDhayut-DLCSetup-v1.1.2.4 does it work any better for you?

I've only had a limited amount of time to play, but it seems to function properly.

Unable to attach a Saved Game file, though.

We are completely unable to reproduce the issue here, following your installation steps. If it's working for you now, I think we're going to have to be thankful and leave it there. If you figure out in the future how to break the installation, please let us know and we'll take steps to fix the issue.

Ok, I think we figured out what was going on here. There's one case where the ownership check could fail if the DLC was installed and unlocked for Matrix, but not for Steam. We're fixing this for the next update, but in the meantime this should fix the issue for you on your Matrix installation. Please delete the following file from your main DW2 installation directory:

steam_api64.dll

Eric,

That seems to have done it. The game did not crash at start-up, nor in two hours of play time. And I had all the races available, including the Ikkuro and the Dhayut.

Thank you for you and your team for your efforts in this matter.

I did notice a few possible minor issues, though. But I want to have some more play time so I can make a better assessment.

Thank you again!
