I would not say that Japan won it clearly. There was a cost in lost planes, and more importantly a cost in pilots. No Allied pilots were lost here. If my memory serves, that is.

I think at least some pilots were saved as you have friendly port. I think, not sure about the results.

I think the program takes ports into account. So when it says PX the pilot is lost.

I need to see the US carrier composition to place my first X. Carriers with CVPs landed might take priority.
